Also known as Mama Africa, she was a South African singer and civil rights activist. Everyone enjoyed great company, meaningful discussion, and delicious food as we came together to celebrate this important history.

Our Older Adult Center celebrated Black History Month yesterday with a lively event! We enjoyed wonderful dances performed by Dances for a Variable Population. Their performance, “Queensbridge, A Joyful Village,” honored Miriam Makeba.

Riis Settlement was recently named a 2025–2026 grantee of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation award! With their support, we'll expand our Pregnancy & New Parent Program, providing expecting & new moms with essential resources. We look forward to the impact we’ll make together.

We’re currently accepting winter clothing donations to support our monthly clothing distributions. Drop off your donations at our Immigrant Services Office, Mon.– Fri. 9:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. Your donations will help keep our families warm throughout the winter months. #queensbridge #donation

World AIDS Day is dedicated to raising awareness to those living with HIV and AIDS, and remembering all we have lost. We will continue to provide our neighbors with solidarity, compassion, and hope.
