A lobbyist who worked directly for Peter Mandelson, on the Palantir board, and on the board of *four* NHS trusts.

A photo of a bollard shaped like a child, placed at the edge of a footpath outside a school.
Here's a lonely one outside the school I'm working at today.
I pass by quite a few of these, riding to various schools in South Yorkshire where I work. I always say hello to them!
A photo of two smiling cyclists riding towards the camera. They are riding along a trail. There are birch trees behind them and the sky is blue.
Sunshine!
A photo of the latest copy of The Bikepacking Journal. On the cover is a photo of three cyclists looking out towards a grassy plain, with a mountainous landscape beyond.
Woke up to the excellent by-election news, saw lots of cyclists of all types on my way back from work this afternoon, which made this cycling instructor very happy, and when I got home, I discovered that the postie had brought me this, so my Friday is looking pretty good!

Manchester Orchestra's Tim Very has died. How incredibly sad, and what a brilliant drummer.

The first episode of Bagpuss was originally broadcast on this day in 1974. Created by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate, the series ran for just 13 episodes (with voices provided by Postgate, Sandra Kerr and John Faulkner).

A photo of a book, Potholes And Pavements, by Laura Laker. The cover is green, and features cycling related illustrations.
Here's book no. 3 in my Year Of Getting Back Into Reading. Having heard @lauralaker.bsky.social speaking at @greenbeltfestival.bsky.social last year, I've been really keen to read this!
"Watch out for that dog poo! THAT dog poo just th...too late."
Finally the DfT has published the much delayed 16 'smart' motorway reports
These show what a colossal waste of time and money these have been and harm they've caused the economy. Justified on basis of National Highways' dodgy traffic models

Ok, letβs do thisπ
Weβll start with an explainer covering:
πWhat is a 15-minute city
π«What on Earth is going on with Oxford
π½Where the conspiracy theories have come from
And then weβll look at the Telegraph article

A photo of a Surly Bridge Club (in whipped butter, with pink pedals and bar grips) leaning against a low wall. The trees beyond are bare and the sky is grey.
Solidarity.
A photo of a brown cardboard box bearing a white sticker that reads 'Tokyobike'.
It's a horrible day out there, and work ended up being cancelled because of the weather, but this box of goodies has just turned up.
A photo of a white Garmin Instinct 2s watch. The words on the screen read: 'today's suggestion: rest'.
Well, if you say so, Garmin.

I remember Ouse Booze...I was a young teacher working in a rural Sussex primary school at the time - trying to get to work through the floods was quite an adventure!

An unfinished bridge with a gap Text "WE'RE NOT SEEING DRIVERS USING THE NEW BRIDGE WE BUILT CONNECTED NETWORKS ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE ON BIKES AS THEY ARE FOR THOSE DRIVING

Drawing of a busy terraced street has pavement-parked cars down both sides. A long cane user is trying to get down the left pavement. A driver in a pavement-parked SUV on double yellow lines is shouting "I need to park here! You can squeeze through or go on the road!" A powerchair user is driving down the road, while an adult and child on a side-by-side tandem are cycling towards us. A driver coming up the road is shouting "Get off the road! You'll get yourselves killed!" A child on a small bike is riding down the right hand pavement, while a driver in a pavement-parked van shouts "Get off the pavement! You're a danger to pedestrians!"
It's great to see action starting against dangerous pavement parking. Now we need: A clear definition of what "unreasonable obstruction" means; Effective ways to enforce against obstructive and dangerous parking; Enforcement against pavements being broken by heavy vehicles.

No mention of pavement parking in the new Road Safety Strategy π
This is a key safety issue for many yet there has been no government response since the consultation on it closed in November 2020!!
