Fifteen year ticks during a very short weather hampered trip to Scotland.
For the first time ever though, didn't get Black Grouse at any leks.
Luckily have a friends party shortly in Llangollen. Has anyone got a What3words for the parking area at World's End lek?

Scafell Pike hikers left Wasdale rescue team to pay hotel bill - BBC News share.google/azvWoSe0ba7N...
For years, experts have warned that nature loss would become a security threat.
Now a national security assessment confirms it: biodiversity collapse risks food shortages, economic instability and global disorder.
Nature underpins our global safety. So why is UK Government failing to protect it?
This is a truly horrifying account of increasingly likely collapse of essential natural systems which would bring mass food shortages, price rises & global disorder. Commissioned from UK intelligence chiefs but scandalously suppressed by Govt, & sneaked out now while attention is elsewhere π
The Great Northern Diver yesterday at King Geo V Res, Chingford. It was tucked into the northeast corner of the north basin, so easily missed if you don't go beyond the causeway.

Lock now sorted at King Geo V. It's now a smaller gold coloured one.
GN Diver, Scaup (?), Smew, 2 Black Redstart, 2 Common Scoter at King Geo V Res yesterday.
The Scaup had a white area on the bill - not something I've noticed before as my sightings are usually distant. Is this a sign of being a hybrid or normal?

We've got two fun events coming in the next couple of weeks - a guided walk at Walthamstow Wetlands on 18th and a Winter Birding Day at EWT Fingringhoe Wick on 1st Feb. Members and non-members welcome, full details at ebws.org.uk

I phoned Walthamstow and was using the correct combination. They had someone phone yesterday who also couldn't get in.
I saw a 1CY Iceland Gull last Feb at Loch Oire. Likely the same bird returning.
Loch Spynie is worth checking out up that way Simon. Good for Tree Sparrows along the entrance track and I've had Otter right in front of the 1st hide.

Anyone planning a trip to King George V Res, in Chingford - the lock doesn't work. It was also reported yesterday and may possibly be sorted later today. Worth phoning the rangers at Walthamstow before making a wasted trip.....like mine was today.

A Robin perched on a bare woodland branch, its orange-red face and chest bright against winter light as it calls with its beak wide open. Behind it, tangled branches and pale sunlight create a forest backdrop, evoking the fragile, everyday wildlife that depends on healthy, protected habitats to survive.
Itβs not adding up.
Nature in England is in freefall, yet todayβs Office for Environmental Protection report warns the Government is at serious risk of missing its legally binding targets to restore it.
That must be a wake-up call. βΌοΈ

Red Kites and Buzzards over Epping. Still find it weird.
Thank you.
I have a Nikon D500 and a Z50. I photograph mainly wildlife stuff. Would I gain anything by part-exchanging both for a Z50ii?
