Guys - it's the Vancouver Canucks. Would be nice if they don't get goalie'd, but I'm going to hold off on proclaiming anything about the new guys or the team without 64-5

To mark International Womenβs Day on Sunday, the Free Press is spotlighting five Manitobans doing impactful work in sports.
But that isn't the story.
The story is: "Why were the US Men's Hockey Team willing to stand with and be used to celebrate the actions of a deplorable, malicious, and hateful administration?"
They are certainly not the victims in this constructed narrative, as MAGAbuyck would like you to believe.
Legalized sports gambling has made it even worse for any/all athletes. I've seen some reference family getting these messages as a "leopard eating your face" moment; it is unequivocally not.
It's important to call this out and condemn those who feel those actions are right or just; be better.
Don't get me wrong: social media allowing losers to directly go after individuals, family, etc., with threats or otherwise is unacceptable. I've been on the receiving end of some. Women get the worst of it (just look at what Claire Hanna shared in response to her questions to B. Tkachuk).
If you're not going to reference the concept of "DARVO" in your article about and quoting MAGAbuyck in his latest interview, then congratulations: all you've done is become a stenographer and contributed nothing.
βIt is our right to be able to choose what we do and donβt endorse, and I think it is a decision that each individual has the right to make."
U.S. Figure Skating [says] there has been no formal invite for any of its Olympians at this time.
Cheveldayoff can always count on Buffalo to get him out of a pickle, I guess
The final quote from Hellebuyck after the series of questions on his post-Olympic celebrations:
βSo you know Iβm just going to continue living and moving on with my life and you know let that just fizzle out because it always will.β
Act accordingly.
Like I said before, theyβre morons but theyβre not stupid. Hellebuyck clearly doesnβt see anything wrong with his actions nor the people he wants to rub shoulders with, and is fine constructing a narrative that heβs actually victim in all of this - not as political props, but the βmedia outrageβ.
What stands out differently, however, was three things:
>That he didnβt get booed (x2)
>βThatβs what everyone wants to write aboutβ and implying the βhatersβ donβt watch womenβs game like they did
>Deflecting question about being used as pawns into the heat his family has received
Briefly skimming through the transcript, but Hellebuyck didnβt really say anything different from what he said in his 10-minute controlled interview. Some of the questions were a little more direct, but 37 went right to βjust a hockey player proud to play for his country!β response for the most part
Scheifele must be having a rough day with his buddies Stanley and Pearson getting traded
Iβm sure the 5-10 minutes on a news-y day like today will be more than enough time to ask Hellebuyck the important questions
Hellebuyck will finally scrum with Winnipeg media, if people even remember what happened 10 days ago
Iβm sorry, I have TSN on mute - is that Daniel Dale? Is this a skit about fact checking quotes? Are they tone deaf???
And once again, it's well withing bounds for media to share that True North is not making MAGAbuyck available for interviews (if media are indeed asking to speak with him). What is True North going to do, get mad and withhold a player and/or information? They're already doing that, guys.
Connor Hellebuyck has been hiding from Canadian journalists for two weeks. The strategy has probably worked. I doubt anybody who will eventually have access to him will have the time or energy to get into his views on the 51st state or other MAGA threats to Canada.
Donβt let Stanley and Schenn finally being traded distract you from the fact that MAGAbuyck hasnβt given a single Winnipeg or Canadian interview since being best buds with Kash Patel, Donald Trump, and other MAGA GOP representatives
The supposed explosion of the federal public service looks less explosive if you put it in per capita numbers and draw a line graph back to the mid-80s.
Now, Cheveldayoff was also the one who caused the problem of having nearly untradeable assets, and it took Stanley shooting at a 12% (and Parayko using his NTC) to make this feasible. So yes, this is a win - but there's a lot more that needs to happen to put Jets in a better position for 26/27.
Final thought: if you told me at the end of last season / beginning of this season that the combined worth of Stanley (age 27, looking for a massive payday in UFA) and Schenn would get you back the 2nd and 4th you traded for Schenn and a 1st pick prospect, I would've called you crazy
For 2026-27, sure. For this year, maybe when Namestnikov returns as the 3C instead of Toews.
(But I also have a dream that Bowness gets CBJ to overpay for his favourite player.)
They should play him every night until the end of the year. With his waiver exemption ending they need to see what he's about.
Stick him opposite of Perfetti for the rest of the season to see what he can do at the NHL level with a team "fighting for its life", and I'll be fine with putting 81-55-13 back together for the 1,001th time.
RosΓ©n hasn't really "stuck" in BUF, but they do have a glut of wingers that was hard to break through. Meanwhile, he will probably be WPG's 2nd or 3rd fastest skater - not as much burst as Barron, but maybe around KC81's.
For a team as slow as the Jets middle six, this certainly fills a gap.
