WHY DO WE DO THIS?!
We have 10,000 design standards but still end up with this nonsense.

TriMetβs new proposal for the #19 bus: retain service along NE Glisan from Gateway to downtown, and combine that with #58 continuing on to Beaverton TC.
Pretty solid solution; both lines have similar frequency and it provides a more grid-like thru route (albeit w/ modest frequency compared to #20).
The proposals are online now.
To provide feedback, you can e-mail the TriMet Board of Directors or pre-register to give virtual or in-person testimony:
Wednesday, March 18:
Board listening session
Wednesday, March 25:
Board public hearing
Go to trimet.org/servicecuts to learn more about the service changes and cuts, and how to share feedback with TriMetβs Board.
All but one of the proposed changes will take effect Aug. 23, 2026, if approved by TriMetβs Board.
Our service proposals now make changes to 34 lines, with the proposals for the following 10 lines updated based on recent feedback from riders and the public:
10, 16, 19, 34, 38, 58, 63, 96, 97 and 156.
No changes will be made to lines 22 and 23 at this time.
The lack of permanent signage for detour routes and a way to report outages is as baffling as it is insulting.
One more sad way that the current US administration makes it so that we canβt have nice things.
I had the pleasure of going to the Ig Nobel ceremony in 2010 and it was a real hoot; our loss is their gain.
The Oregon State Legislature is looking for a Digital Accessibility & Design Specialist. The role is based in Salem at the capitol, with some remote work possible:

Agreed. I donβt even feel comfortable with the FX2βs branding as FX, TBH. Evening headways are way too long to justify branding it so prominently as βfrequent.β Headways jump from 12 to 30 (!) minutes after 7:30pm.

A single straight line is deceptively tricky, but figured it out after stewing for a minute.

The drummer from Gang of Four was my English teacher in college.
In the intervening months Iβve rediscovered my appreciation for a good walk, but man, if youβre just tryna get somewhere it takes so much longer on foot. Even though Iβll be riding very cautiously now, Iβm going to feel like Iβm flying π
Took my first bike ride in months today β 145 days since my last ride (but whoβs counting π
)
I broke my collarbone last October and finally got the go-ahead to start riding again today π It was just a little amble around the block, but it felt great to be back in the saddle.

The funniest version of this is the DuckDuckGo app, which appears as βDuckDuckGo, Duck .ai (optional)β in the app store. Itβs like theyβre to bragging and apologizing for it at the same time π«
An unfortunate reemerging talking point in this city is that drivers need to park as close as possible to where they are going in order to be safe. It erases transit riders, pedestrians, cyclists. It is important to push back on that.
Feeling proud albeit a bit surprised of my 1st-turn win for this one yesterday π³ Iβve never been on that route, either! (Took me at least 3 tries each for the other westside routes the days before.)
Sadly my bike has gone missing. Last seen outside of Double Barrel on Feb 28th between 5 and 8pm. Please lmk if you see it!

If you're thinking about running for Portland City Council in D3 and you believe in legalizing more housing, creating diverse, welcoming, walkable neighborhoods, fighting freeway expansion, protecting important programs like Preschool for All... give primarying Senator Taylor a thought instead.

Look out, NYC, Portland has its own Brooklyn Bridge now! City council passed the naming resolution for what we used to call the Holgate railyard overpass. It's not a sexy bridge, but at least it has a name now. (Thanks @pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social for getting funding for some signage)

Incredible to check out the newly βrefreshedβ Hollywood Library. Public libraries are the bedrock of thriving communities, and Portland has some of the best libraries out there. I hope you visit this one or another in our area soon!
