@seebo429.bsky.social could join you in a bin
Today something happened on the bus that really made me sad. I was on Bus 8 going to Sackville Terminal. There was one vacant seat and a man was sitting there, so I sat down beside him. After a moment, he said to me, “Don’t you have another seat?” I just smiled and didn’t say anything. He repeated it again, and I ignored it. Then he said, “Move out from here.” It made me feel really uncomfortable and hurt. I don’t understand why someone would react like that when all I did was sit in an empty seat on a public bus. We live in a diverse society, and everyone deserves to feel respected and welcome. Sadly, moments like this remind me that racism and prejudice still exist in some people’s minds. I just hope that one day people will learn to treat others with kindness and respect, no matter who they are. Just sharing this because it affected me today.
Language matters. @hfxgov.bsky.social has a plan of 'towards zero' deaths on our roads. But behind every statistic is a person, so who lives & who dies in that scenario? Who would you be willing to sacrifice? #RoadSafety #VisionZero youtu.be/GAZ7sI-LDvo?...
We really need to start with an ambitious and detailed strategy.
"“I want to stop killing people on our streets and so I would rather do a more thoughtful plan than accelerate something we don’t have the capacity to do at the moment” - Cleary.
Our vague outline plan with an unambitious goal needs a VZ overhaul

Yeah, cool, so a short 🧵 about Halifax's finances.
Right now, after 14 or so year of taxes Halifax is at the precipice of a debt crisis which has the genuine potential to be destabilizing to our government. Most likely reforms instead of revolution but destabilizing none the less.
Why now?

wow. There should be a full audit and review of taxes paid and by who, also costs. Some resulting decisions could avoid this last minute budget crunch
lol no crosswalk tho
Given our existing road safety strategy doesn't have a goal to achieve Vision Zero, that's a pretty huge clue regarding its impact.

P.J. McKay’s camper is like a little harbour to animals. She rescued a rabbit last year; this winter, a dog named Buddy.
This is McKay's third winter at the Green Road Park homeless encampment. And she’s working to ensure it’s her last.
My latest for @thechronicleherald.bsky.social.
No detailed strategy, no goal to achieve Vision Zero, no proposal/motion for this. After a record-breaking year of fatalities on our roads including five pedestrian fatalities, two child deaths
I think this will be Dr Catherine Cervin and/or Dr Sara Kirk speaking today

Right now we are considering cutting janitors wages to give landlords a tax break.
