This essay is right! Wayne Holloway-Smith needs to step down as editor of The Poetry Review. The pages of that magazine are bland and exactly the same. Every poem I’ve ever sent has been rejected when it would provide some variety to the noise! open.substack.com/pub/vamoul/p...

“Now, I respect the verse of G K Chesterton, but what I cannot abide by is his wretched sonnet to one of the most offensive cheeses of all: Stilton (otherwise known as ‘armpit slough’).”

“Outside was brutally quiet, pierced only by the tender song of snowdrops falling to the ground. There was a twin to each arm of Mr. Saturn, whose feet were flayed by the tarmac.”

We all (rightly) talk of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, but I see barely anyone discuss her other masterpiece, Mathilda. open.substack.com/pub/themaple...

Last year, I wrote an in-depth, academic article on Christina Rossetti’s ‘Goblin Market’. As someone who didn’t go to university (and dropped out of sixtg form), I didn’t have previud experience with citations, but they are included here. #GoblinMarket #Poetry open.substack.com/pub/themaple...
Every Valentine’s Day, I giggle at the fact James Joyce had such a fierce fart fetish. His letters to Nora Barnacle are something to behold! 💨
On this day, in 1963, we lost one of the greatest minds in poetry. Sylvia Plath’s poem, Elm, featured in a dream I had the other night, so I figured it appropriate.
“Going back to Imogen Wade’s winning poem, I recognise that the topic is of course terrifying, but that fear is (in my opinion) not shown throughout the poem.”

After 'Untitled (Severed Breast from Radical Surgery in a Place Setting l)' by Lee Miller When my husband asks me what's for dinner, I show him the breasts cut from the bone. The cleaver had gently fondled the nipple, Taking off my glove with its teeth. Now my husband pours red wine over the battlefield. I put the rest of her behind the fireplace where it's warm. Plates bleaching in the sink, he sticks a fork in me. I stick a fork in him Speak to me. He calls me a liar, a sketch, a ghost of the land. Who will cook the cut if I'm not around ? If only I could strip the rump and wear it as a hat, Maybe he might give an ear to my melody. Courtenay Schembri Gray_is a writer from the North of England. Her plays include: The Change and The Moonchild. Courtenay's work has been staged by The Short List MCR. Her poems have appeared in journals like CAROUSEL. A HUGE thank you to @anthro_poetry @charliebaylis6 for publishing my poem, Breastplate, in Anthropocene. It is a response to a photograph (by Lee Miller) which shows a severed breast (post-mastectomy) on a white dinner plate. #Poetry #WritingCommunity
