Omg, yes. I once listened to a movie podcast - they were talking about LA Story. Two of the podcasters were recent LA transplants and they kept saying THE most stereotypical things about the city. Acting like they knew. This LA girl threw her phone across the room.

Strong statement today from UC's Academic Senate:

its just not defensible in 2025 for democratic candidates and officeholders not to have a clear position on asserting the equal rights of transgender americans. if you're unwilling, step aside and let a patriot take your place.

It should be needless to say, but it is perhaps at this moment worth saying, that transgender individuals have the same right as anyone else to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The media is completely ignoring that Brown University just agreed to a full bathroom ban and defining trans people out of existence. Even worse, when they mention it, they're describing it as a sports ban. This is not just a sports ban.

This is HUGE. Parliamentarian knocks out Medicaid provider tax language, various Medicaid/immigration provisions (including penalty on states that cover undocumented w/state-only $), and bar on Medicaid for gender-affirming care.

The path for Democrats is very clear: have good ideas, believe in them, state them clearly, stick to them, act decisively in support of these ideas, speak to the young half of the electorate, support other democrats who do these things. Follow Mamdani and Lander's example or fade into nothingness.

what’s funny is that if pro-cuomo centrist democrats were less myopic they might see that mamdani was running the kind of campaign that could help rebuild the party brand — accessible with an outsider persona and a focus on “kitchen table” issues.

A lovely human being I once knew and worked with, Tom Bezzi, taught me that all civil rights movements have to go through their bathroom phases. Race. The ERA. Sexual orientation. Gender identity. I shouldn't be suprised. I'm just so so tired ...

And 2. BATHROOMS! It's true. It's complicated. Heightened scrutiny has made gendered bathrooms complicated - you can never find a sex-segregated bathroom anymore, can you?
