The irony meter is off the charts today.

The average high for Feb last year was 27°, there's no public showers in the CBD (and a known lack of public toilets) - and we wondered why a person was showering in the fountain? To maintain a little bit of dignity?

I remember asking staff, if I lock up my bike to a public bike rack, will I get a $20,000 fine? That's some of the specifics of the bylaw, "not attaching things to street furniture" except all bike racks are street furniture. Apparently I'm not a nuisance (I'm sure others would disagree).

The origins of the Move On orders are from Ham East National MP, Ryan Hamilton - former Hamilton City Councillor whose council colleagues are setting up bylaws of a $20,000 fine for basically being visibly homeless.

It begs the question, who's allowed to ask for money on the street and who isn't?

Voting systems are the awful intersection of Very Important and also Very Boring. The fact our country got a referendum across the line was huge and I'm so grateful to now live in a country that has actual proportional representation.

Obv very good results for the UK Greens (yayayay) but every time I have to look at the make up of their parliament, I'm so grateful for the nerds who got us MMP all those years ago.

Last night I had a dream my braces wires fell out, and I couldn't find my orthodontist (who I haven't seen irl for 18 years) and I was very stressed that my teeth were moving around my mouth.

Amazing what my brain can cook up to be worried about.

Sometimes as an adult it's very obvious you had a disfunctional upbringing, even if you weren't entirely aware of it at the time 👀 😬

A very lukewarm take for the evening, I read Wuthering Heights sometime in high school and found it boring af, but then again I also hated reading Jacqueline Wilson books as well but on reflection I'm like ohhh YUP

She can definitely GET to the library (she plays table tennis six nights a week), it's just finding stuff that she likes to the sheer volume she consumes haha. I bought her back two magazines and two books from the library today and she's almost finished one of the books already...

She's a big fan! "That Russell Brown said some good things this week" is basically a catch phrase from her.

I have asked, and they said she could join the book club, which I don't think would be her jam at all. She likes telling me what she read (emphasis on telling and me), not reading things she's not that into or necessarily hearing other ppl's hot takes haha.

Likes pol sci (enjoyed that history of neoliberalism book that came out recently), nature and the environment, feminism, humour, biographies.

Maybe I should just sign her up to StoryGraph and Booktok 🤔 🤔

I got her both the Jane Fonda and the Miriam Margolyes biographies for Christmas which she loved, did not like the crime fiction I got her. Subscribes to NZ Geo, North & South, and the Listener (always telling me about what @publicaddress.bsky.social had written).

I would pay a decent amount of money for a book recommendation service for my 70yo mother who gets through 3+ books a week, and I'd pay extra if they could request them via click and collect at the library down the road.

She doesn't need to own the books, just have the recommendation, ya know...

I hear you. Getting a tree policy across the line, and a relatively progressive one too, was a massive win.

We will have flooding, but heat waves are actually a massive risk due to the humidity factor (high heat + high humidity = 🤮☠️) but we're so unprepared to talk about heat risk and what to do (no, it's not just a nice summer's day). So much work to do that's so massively under funded!
