i regularly look back and cringe at how a lot of my earliest career desires were tied to creative technology and futurism. nowadays it feels those words are used as dogwhistles for AI-apologists and people enabling that arm of the tech world, its just so gross

and before any incels jump up and say diversity/inclusion, absolutely not. this is specifically about the overall tone, how every character has to be quippy, and nothing can be done for an emotion without ironic self-awareness
lets be clear, i figure the root answer is capitalism. it’s just wild to me that this hits every medium – from my recent dive into Magic, to D&D, MMOs, fantasy shows & tv, etc. I try to offset all this with reading older fantasy novels (1970-90’s) and the difference in tone and comedy is so apparent
are there any good articles / pieces on the Marvel-ification of mainstream fantasy writing and why it’s happening? when i say Marvel-ification, i specifically mean fantasy not taking itself seriously; hyperfixing on irony and self-awareness over authenticity
