Design mock-up for the ill-fated SNES CD-ROM addon that never made it to market. Here it's presented as the Nintendo SUPERDISC CD-ROM System. A logo with adorns the top left with "SUPER DISC" in a thick 90s lettering and "CD-ROM SYSTEM" in a thinner font underneath with a rainbow barline inbetween them. Below the logo is a tagline written in yellow, saying "Give your system extra power for the ultimate 16-Bit machine! Below that is a radical 90s graphic advertising a demo disc included inside. To the right of the packaging is a Super Nintendo with facsimile of the SuperDisc system underneath, digitally painted to look like it's attached to the console. The drive is open to show a black CD in the tray. The bottom left has the Nintendo seal of quality and the logos for Sony, Compact Disc and Dolby Surround Sound.
The tag-line "THE VIDEO GAME EXPERIENCE IS NOW POWERED UP!!" is in a thin yellow-orange font. The left of the packaging is black and discusses all the features of the SuperDisc including redbook CD quality audio, enhanced graphics and the SuperFX chip built into the machine and a built in memory storage. The right advertises brand new releases. Super Mario All Stars, StarFox and Secret of Mana are showcased with Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III (VI), Mega Man X, Castlevania Dracula X, Mario Paint Expansion Disc and SimCity 2000 are advertised as coming soon. There's also a coupon for five months of Nintendo Power and a SNES cart for free with proof of purchase.
For my design class in college, we had to make packaging for a product that didn't exist. So I thought, "What if Sony and Nintendo actually made the CD add on for the SNES?"
And then it spiraled out of control.
Art of me, one as a scraggly bearded guy in a hoodie and one of me in a cute sweater with longer hair and no beard with eyelashes. Guy me is saying "Sex is fine for me. I get told that I'm very attractive and that I'm good at sex but I don't really understand what it is that I do aside from being nice and having a big dick. The only thing that really gets me turned on is playing with really esoteric and unrealistic kinks, so much so that I briefly considered I could be asexual for a while." Girl me is saying "Now that I'm in a body that feels like myself, I actually really enjoy regular ol' vanilla sex. I see what's fun about it now!! I get hot and bothered way easier and my libido FEELS higher despite it logically going down because I enjoy intimacy that much. Yeah, HRT and SSRIs make it hard to orgasm like I used to, but the process is SO much more fun now that I don't particularly care! Also my esoteric and unrealistic kinks just make me blindingly horny now instead of regular horny."

noticing a weird double standard a lot of people have where something going wrong on windows is to be expected but a much milder and easier to solve thing going wrong on linux is proof that it's completely unreasonable for anyone to suggest that they use it as an alternative to windows

seeing people actually installing linux this week after getting sick of big tech's perversion of the computer is unironically giving me hope. we can live in harmony with the computer when we don't let parasites in big tech put their evil sludge in it

"We owe conspiracy theorists a huge apology"
No we fucking don't. They were talking about a secret conspiracy of gay trans Jewish lizard people. The Epstein files uncovered a conspiracy of rich, straight, white, right-wing Christian men, which these motherfuckers never even considered.

Tl;dr: The vast majority of adults will never have to interact with our age assurance systems and their experience won't change, because we know Discord and how people use it, so we're designing to respect privacy and deliver a safer experience while minimizing friction for adults. Hey folks β Iβve been on Discord since very early 2016 and actually joined the company in 2017. Safety is one of my areas, so todayβs announcement on our blog is something Iβve been pretty involved with. Iβve always cared about Discord's approach to privacy (E2EE for A/V was another of my projects here), so I figured Iβd add some more context to today's news. I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification. I say this because we launched age assurance in the UK and Australia in 2025, and we have some pretty good data on this now. The idea here is that we can pre-identify most adults based on what we already know (not including your messages!), and that looks to get us pretty far here. No face scans, no IDs, for the vast majority of adults.
And if you are one of the smaller subset of folks that we can't definitively pre-identify, then still, you only have to do it if you're accessing age-restricted servers or channels, or changing certain settings. That's really not most users. (Altho... might be more Redditors, tbh.) Last, I know that there is concern about privacy and data leaks. That's a real concern. The selfie system is built purely client-side, it never leaves your device, and we did that intentionally. That'll work for a bunch of users who aren't pre-identified as adults. But if you do end up in the ID bucket, then yeah, you're right that has some risk. We're doing what we can to minimize this by working with our range of partners (who are different partners than the data leak you read about), and if it's any help, we learned a lot internally from the last issue. But I get if that doesn't necessarily inspire more confidence. Anyway, weβll be sharing more next month as we get closer to the global roll out about the system, including the technology behind it in March. I honestly wouldn't be happy if we didn't build something good and I am excited about what weβre launching, but please let us know what you think when we share more details. And I really appreciate everybody's feedback here today. Weβre definitely reading it!
Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)
