Equalities Minister Olivia Bailey has been warned in a new report that draft schools guidance is already causing confusion, concern and harm in schools. It is the latest in a series of unpublished drafts of guidance on the treatment of Trans+ kids in schools. Speaking to over 50 teachers to draw its conclusions, Pride In Education told QueerAF how schools have already begun implementing guidance despite it not being finalised. Some teachers are reporting that they've been unable to talk about LGBT+ History Month for the first time in years. It also draws on support from teachers' union NASWUT, who backed the organisation's calls to withdraw relationships and sex education guidance – dubbed a 'Section 28 2.0' because of the culture of silence about Trans+ lives it threatens to create.

Yeah, I understand why that was hard for a group of folks who were so young. I don’t know if I’d be ready yet, but I’d like to grow to that point.
