Reciprocal writing help? I’m writing a debut novel- it’s the story of my dad’s childhood in Irish industrial homes & lifelong & intergenerational trauma that folllowed. Be good to get some opinions. I’m 57k words in, initial feedback is good. Anyone wanna swap novels and notes? Or just read it?

This is such a beautiful example of how to make an opposing point while keeping everyone onside. Flattery in the comparison, evident knowledge and clear storytelling. Iconic.

I went bowling last week and ordered food for my son, they said they would deliver to the lane. Concerned I asked “won’t that make your balls sticky?”. Neither of us knew what to do once the words were said.

I agree in the main, though there are areas of benevolent inequality such as protective paternalism where this is flipped. Eg As a young builder I was expected not to know and make mistakes- that fit. Male young builders were expected to know. As I grew in knowledge (potential power)I was punished.

For the sake of clarity: I am far more bothered by the drunk man who had a wee in the train carriage the other week cos he couldn’t be bothered to walk a carriage down to a working toilet, than I will ever be by the idea of a trans+ person using any toilet.

Today my son asked if all women were Drs. That right there is power of what we see.
