1942 or 1943 black and white photo of three young Germans sitting near trees in what appears to be a park: a young man in a military uniform, a dark-haired young woman in civilian clothes, and a young man in civilian clothes. They are Hans Scholl, his sister Sophie Scholl, and their friend Christoph Probst, members of the White Rose Society who protested against the Nazi government. The Nazis executed them by guillotine on 22 February 1943.

On 22 February 1943, three young Germans, members of the White Rose Society -- Hans Scholl, Sophie Scholl, and Christoph Probst -- were guillotined by the Nazis for distributing leaflets speaking out against the crimes of the Third Reich. Their bravery, and their cause, will not be forgotten.

National Science Foundation freezes grant review in response to Trump executive orders The National Science Foundation has cancelled all grant review panels this week. It's unclear how long the pause could last.

The National Science Foundation cancelled over 60 grant review panels today, effectively grinding funding of new projects to a halt.

The so-far indefinite pause comes as NSF grapples with the impact Trump's executive orders will have on their grantmaking process.

DATA BLACKOUT:

I've seen memos from FOUR different agencies today that order an immediate BLACKOUT of all government data, reports and information.

This will have immediate life and death consequences and must NOT be allowed to stand.

Elon Musk, Europe and the battle for online truth Having helped re-elect Donald Trump with a $250 million donation and generous boosting on his X platform, Elon Musk has turned his gaze to Europe, notably the UK and Germany.

Excellent long (and detailed) feature by @tconnellyrte.bsky.social @news.rte.ie on EU, implementation challenge of DSA and the increasing threat of misinformation in democracy elections (currently Germany) from social media platforms and their billionaire owners.
