Probably say this every year, but if you ever have the slightest inclination to try watching cycling on TV, absolutely the best place to start is with today's Strade Bianche race. And this year you get to watch the most exciting young rider in the world, whose name is genuinely pronounced Sex Ass.
Pogi, Seixas, Wout, Pidcock - Strade Bianche is shaping up as some race and I'm pleased to say that I'll be doing live coverage of the whole event for the award-winning app Tour Tracker (www.thetourtracker.com), followed by Paris-Nice next week. Come and join us if you can't follow the racing on TV
This is good
For anyone outside of the UK, unfamiliar with UK satirical/news magazine Private Eye, this is how most (?) Europeans see the Trump administration.
The first woman in Parliament to appear in the Guardian's 'best-dressed at Glastonbury' feature.
You'll never sing that, etc...
Opening Weekend is shaping up nicely already
I read an article a couple of days back saying that the general sense within cycling is that doping is on the wane. I'm not convinced by this at all and this story highlights growing concerns about athletes being a step ahead of the testers once again
This is well worth a listen for urban cyclists, but for absolutely anyone really who lives, works or spends time in a city. My task now is to get my dad who thinks the 15min city is going to impinge on his life in a Wiltshire village to listen and learn from it too
Ooh, this is very interesting
This is very good. I often wonder how organic the torrent of (faux-)nostalgia online is, it feels increasingly malevolent (particularly on Facebook)
beautiful
Two things to note in this pic. Firstly, the sun is finally at. Secondly that mountain in the distance is the Pic de Midi, 100km away
Just heard from Norsgaard in the "Forhjulslir" podcast that when Søren Kragh crashed in provence and fell over the edge, the motorbike following him didn't wait or alert anyone. So Søren saw the motorbike and then the entire peloton pass by and realised no one would likely notice him. ⬇️
Only this CD ROM produced a few years back
Closing weekend before Opening Weekend
She never lived to see this moment, but it’s worth remembering that none of this would have happened without Virginia Giuffre.
She had the courage to speak out against power and privilege when it was just her word against Andrew’s.
Thanks to her, justice & accountability may finally have its day.
PIZZA EXPRESS BOOK A CELEBRATION
The number and breadth of races affected by adverse weather at the start of this season seems unprecedented. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear of more races being shortened/neutralised in the coming days given the conditions in southern Europe at the moment
At age 62, mine is 38. My dad's was a similar rate at much the same age. Both of us fit, but not Sanremo-winning fit
Nadhim Zahawi thinks London is now unsafe, because the other day a tired-looking man walked past him during the morning rush hour.
It's interesting to see how the regional attitude to 'Hell' has changed. In the 60s and 70s it was seen as a throwback, as not being representative of an area that wanted to be regarded as modern. Cobbles were ripped up. Now they can't get enough of it
Very funny and right to the point from, I think, @jonnylong.bsky.social
Hauts-de-France do sponsor and host the race
Jim Ratcliffe has issued a statement saying he's very sorry if people don’t like the fact that he’s a racist twat.
If you want to hear a proper analysis of Jim Ratcliffe's remarks and their current context, this is one of @mrjamesob.bsky.social's best, imo. No punches pulled: we are heading back to the 1970s at lightning speed and it is a terrible prospect.
