Why is healthy Mexico star Chucky Lozano being paid $6 million to not play in MLS?
Chucky Lozano was supposed to be the face of San Diego FC and the Mexican national team. Now it's unclear when he'll even play soccer again.
Unpacking Chucky Lozanoโs dilemma.

San Diego's Somali community โ already plagued by harassment following Nick Shirley's Minneapolis video โ braces for more.
If you only read one Nick Shirley story this week ... well you probably already did because the Times published one Tuesday. But if you read two (and you should) I spoke with @jaredlholt.bsky.social about San Diego being his next target:

The Trump admin gutted DHS's civil rights and oversight offices. Now, after an ICE officer shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, the offices that would investigate policies and training are "effectively dormant."

Immigration officers assert sweeping power to enter homes without a judge's warrant, memo says
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement memo obtained by The Associated Press reveals that the agency allows immigration officers to forcibly enter homes to make arrests without a judicial warrant.
They just make up bullshit, bad-faith legal theories, do what they want until a court stops them, then lather, rinse, and repeat.
In the meantime, they get to terrorize people. And nothing will happen to any of those responsible.
Our courts are not equipped to deal with this.

This person who successfully committed suicide (something which jails are supposed to protect against) was being held at a random Georgia jail through a contract with the U.S. Marshal Service, which let ICE use its network of contracts with local jails. This is not a big detention center.

FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.
It's clear that the system is breaking down. Many of these are preventable deaths.

Tijuana River is flowing again - this time due to a potable water pipeline rupture in Tijuana that's knocked-out water for hundreds of neighborhoods there.
But this also means that there's probably sewage headed towards San Diego's South Bay beaches.
