I agree that intention matters. But I think the issue isn't just individual artists it's the system that decides which intentions get amplified and which get buried.
I understand that argument, but I question whether spectacle actually achieves effective social action. A world of constant alarm and critique without beauty becomes exhausting. The real question is whether the current system allows space for both, or if spectacle just consumes everything. :/
Yes, they are, but unfortunately that 1% is what makes the noise and shapes the world's perception of contemporary art. :/
Consequently, art either screams about the horror or laughs darkly at the absurdity of it all, but rarely offers respite or transcendence.
When art became primarily about critique and disruption, it lost other vocabularies: reverence, beauty, patience, silence. These virtues can seem naive or apolitical in a world on fire...👇

This is what happens when you ask a machine to "think" like lichen and it hears something else entirely.
The dot density gradient evokes water ripples and fungal growth, revealing the space between organic and machine learning interpretation. Concentric circles expand, overlap, fade, the algorithm doesn't distinguish between pond surface and mycelium, between ripple and growth ring.
This glitch of language between human and machine is itself a kind of symbiosis, like lichen, where two different organisms create something neither could alone, the miscommunication between human intention and machine logic generates forms that wouldn't exist through perfect translation.
In the dialogue with the #machine misunderstandings arise and the code outputs are unexpected. These new iterations I call 'ripple lichen'.
Instead of correcting the glitch, the error, the misunderstanding, I'm taking the results and playing with them.

Since I started exploring lichen as a source of inspiration and organism to investigate, I've been using AI as an assistant to create code templates and map my morning walks and #lichen photographs.
