Great weather the last days. It helps a lot.
Snaps from last week. Blue sky above.

The first one looks angry. Angry bird.
Yeah, maybe. I don't know all the PM.
Just that in the example above, and it's a nice one as it shows how close you need to be at high fov to get your subject in frame and not lost in the picture.
Mouse wheel is in fact W and S. Looks at the values changing at the top of the screen. These are the X and Y values in space.
Let me check, I just started it.
Ah! I see now.. Kiroshi cheated and moved to get closer to the subject and have it in frame at 90°.
Imagine how wide it would have been if Kiroshi was standing where he took the photo at 30°.
That's my point in fact about the WSAD and terminology.
WSAD is moving while changing FOV is Zooming.
Thank you very much ❤️. I will do more of that stuff as I found other things to play around with.
No, it's the same thing. It's just that some dev use FOV only and some use focal length AND fov.
Like said above, if in a PM you see something like 28mm focal (SW Outlaws is a good example), you can already say 'my fov is 65.5'.
Interesting convo in fact.
I didn't say all games, some have, some don't.
Here, it's just an example IF the PM would have the FOV assigned to the mouse wheel. Nothing more.
WSAD = moving the camera
Mouse wheel = FOV/Zoom
It's like having a zoom lens going from 18mm to 70mm.
18mm will be 90° (FOV) and 70 will be around 28.5 or 29.
Can't remember exactly.
By example, if you zoom too much, you sometimes have to move away from the subject. With W or S.
Like in real life cameras, zooming is changing the field of view.
I think what you call zooming (WSAD) is moving the camera left/right/forward/backward. Like a photographer does in real in life.
But, can you give me examples of games where it works differently? I am curious.
Same feeling with a new vacuum cleaner. I am officially old.
Cool... really cool. But you know the question 😜
A lot of stuff here. If I had two suggestions the first would be to look at IRL photographer. Can be black and white or colour. It can be street, war, landscape, architecture etc.
The second and depending what you are looking for is to look at cinematograph-y/er and framing from stills.
Zoom and FOV are the same :-D

Different times, different era, different feelings and different means.
I still love both.
A light at the end of the tunnel ?
The Occultist from @daloar.com and @daedalic.bsky.social could be my next buy!
Loved the demo.

Thank you Bryan. I have some self developed (old) photographs like that home. Told myself 'why not doing the same in game'.
