Or XLR cables… 😊
@niklasronnberg
I’m a senior associate professor in sonification and sound design, doing research in sonification, visualization, and interaction. I love making music, exploring modular synthesizers, learning old computer stuff, and tinkering with electronics and coding.
Or XLR cables… 😊
The call for the 2026 Internet of Sounds symposium is live and we’re inviting work for the 1st IEEE International Workshop on Sonification for the IoS. Please do get involved:

I have a masterstudent who’s developing an interactive audiobook with game mechanics, a single player adventure book. The student is focusing on the storytelling, game mechanics, implementation, and sound design. So, I had the opportunity to do some game music.

I’m exploring the SN76477. Heavily inspired by Thomas Henry, but with added MIDI in (with pitch bend and vibrato via the mod wheel). Next step is the envelopes, then the noise, and then a VCF…
Yes! And that is more important!
What’s your plan?
I have some AY-3-891x that I want to explore a bit… so, that’s the start at least. 😊
A breast board with +5V power connected and an oscillator. And in front a few more oscillators. The oscillators are 1Mhz, 4MHz, and 8MHz.
Hopefully I’ll be on time now… #diyelectronics #synthdiy
A couple of breadboards with some small speakers on an oak table
Another synth module is coming together. This’ll be a mono synth based on the SN76489AN sound chip with a Korg (late) MS20 voltage controlled filter. #synthdiy #modular #eurorack
An old IC on a white breadboard
Old ceramic ICs give some seriousness and credibility to my tinkering… 4-bit ALU from 1976.

The presentation environment with colorful paintings
Yesterday I talked about how sound can change the way we experience art during an evening program in the exhibition of Olle Bonniér’s art at Norrköping’s art museum.

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year

I’m sorry but no. There are schematics and PDB files if you want?
The SAA1099 ICs?
Hey all! I'm doing a quick study about how people use metaphors to describe sound. If you can spare 5-10 minutes, please take my survey! carletonu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_... Thank you! #sounddesign
A display showing the words Academic Mindtrek 2025
Just arrived at the Academic Mindtrek 2025 conference. In the afternoon we’ll be presenting our reflections on how we use storytelling and world building as pedagogical tools for teaching physical interaction design. #AcademicSky
A black and white photo of a young couple in a “boat” on stage
I have one of my grandparents performing on stage sometime during the 1930s… I believe my grandmother was in her late teens at the time. I guess that's where I got my desire to be creative and my love for music…
I finally finished the SAA1099 sound chip module! #eurorack #synthdiy #modular
Old industrial yellow buildings close to water
My work environment, I love working at a university campus close to water. ❤️
The SAA1099 module is coming together nicely. A few tweaks of the code that creates different envelopes for the six sound channels and it should all be finished. Here four sound channels are used (the blip melody is heavily influenced by an old Boytronic song): #synthdiy #eurorack #modular
Testing the SAA1099 module, using the Mono mode and four channel… #eurorack #synthdiy #modular
Yes 😊 probably not entirely true for PAC-man but rather the first Monkey Island… but the PAC-man sprites were easier to draw in monochrome…
Yes, you’re right (now). 😊 I’ve just made simple circles for push buttons… a bit lazy
A black Eurorack module for a module with MIDI in to a SAA1089 sound generator chip. There are a few of the Pac-Man sprites scattered around on the front panel
Maybe a little silly front panel… but I think I like it anyway… #eurorack #synthdiy #modular
Probably MIDI (at least to start with).
“Colton” = box of… 🙄
