I love how he makes a lot of 2001’s subtext into text. He’s happy to give you what you’re looking for, instead of keeping you at arm’s length—but there are moments where the universe keeps all of us away, and he includes those too.
2010 has a *lot* going for it. It’s a good script, and there’re some strong mid 80’s sci-fi vibes, with a touch of schlock. It’s completely divorced from Kubrick, but there are some pieces in it that feel unknowable and awe-inspiring. It’s never trying to be more than it is, which I appreciate.
