An olive-brown turtle, head covered in yellow spots, rests head-forward on a submerged log.
A Yellow-spotted River Turtle (Podocnemis unifilis) crawls out of the water to bask at sunset in the Peruvian Amazon. Some swayed back and forth, scraping the plastron against their basking sites. This scratching behavior is presumably done to clean the shell and dislodge parasites, such as leeches.
