Painting by Georges Kars, showing Berthe dressed in somber clothing, wearing glasses, surrounded by stacks of frames and paintings
Painting by Matisse of Notre Dame and the Seine, in an abstracted geometric style, with large blocky areas of colour and a purple, green and blue palette
Painting by Picasso of Parisian street life. An early canvas by him, it is figurative and features crowds of dancers wearing evening dress, mostly dark in colour with a few pops of yellow and red. The painting is framed in a large, ornate gilt frame which rather overwhelms it.
An expressive portrait by Suzanne Valadon of Madame Zamaron, who wears a long black dress and sits on a chair, her chin on her hand and gazing at the viewer. The main eye catching detail is an extravagant shawl or blanket wrapped around her, painted in swirls of red, white, yellow and blue.
Really enjoyed the thoughtful exhibition on forgotten Parisian art dealer and gallerist Berthe Weill @mbamtl.bsky.social - an unusual approach, reassembling work by Matisse, Picasso, Valadon, Modigliani and others (incl overlooked women artists) whom she championed in their early careers.

A painting of a woman with pale skin, auburn hair and blue eyes, standing with a sketchpad cradled in her right arm. With her left hand, she appears to be drawing in the sketchbook. Behind her are shelves, cupboards and a counter filled with paintbrushes, vases, and other studio equipment.
