Just watched the video from today's shooting and I can't stop shaking. I watched it 6 times to make sure I saw what I saw. How many times did I see my fellow believers throw around verses this week? "Comply!" "Don't resist!" He wasn't! He was filming. Watching. Legally. And they SHOT HIM 10 TIMES!
Born and raised in the SBC and even spent my childhood as an MK. Didn't leave the SBC until I was in my 40s. If I posted this on my FB page, you would not believe how many of my "aunts" and "uncles" and SBC friends would fight me on this. But you're not wrong! Only one reason I left the SBC.
They also didn't care about kids being molested by their pastors and ministers. But stopping them from singing? HORRIFYING!!!
They even wear the masks for the rape
They took CHILDREN naked into the street. Fathers separated from mothers separated from children. Citizens & immigrants combined. No care for citizenship, visas, warrants, due process, LAWS, RIGHTS. The Christian nation slept. And woke up, maybe cried one tear into lattes, & returned to their day.
It's taken me all 10 months of this horrible, awful year to finally learn this. But the grief in losing some of these relationships is significant- even when it was necessary for my mental health.
Please no more lightning in Spring Hill!! Our house just off Port Royal was hit by lightning last night and I finally just got off the phone arranging all the contractors to come and fix things!
You have no idea how much I needed those exact words. I'm broken today. Hundreds of coworkers laid off months ago & another 500 today. Our local food band is begging for help. And neighbors are missing or hiding in fear. And I'm fuming at the happy friends on social media who just don't care.

I grew up as an MK in Asia. Spent most of my childhood there. And I'd give anything to go back "home" right now.

If our Christianity causes us to get more angry at the idea of a poor person possibly “abusing the system” than we do about the most powerful and wealthy people in our country creating a system that crushes the poor and makes it impossible to get by, we need a grand reversal.

I'm going to guess quiet = today, we mourn the loss of our country as we know it. But hopefully, tomorrow we can find the will to fight again.
Today's verse of the day have me chills and I need to sit and think on it today.
I found one. A pastor told me he doesn't mind the 8 states proposing to make abortion a homicide offense (with death penalty as punishment). I asked about the lack of clear exclusions for women with ectopic and non-viable pregnancies. He said he still wouldn't oppose the laws because it's democracy.
There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.
Why bother? The leaders don't care about women unless they are having their babies or cleaning their house. It's the whole reason I left the SBC.
I lost a friend last night. But for me, this wasn't about politics where we can just agree to disagree. This was about morality. And in this particular case - about life and death.
I used to only have to debate with fellow Christians about whether or not women could preach. Now I have to argue with them about whether or not Jesus would deport immigrants or eat dinner with a (insert Christians' current favorite sin they're mad about here) person.
"Of course, Judge! We'll start releasing those grant checks we've been holding that you demanded we pay. Ummm... hang on. I can't seem to find anyone who knows how to work the printers around here. Sorry about that! Oh well!"
Just asked a former missionary "aunt" for her definition of "woke" so I can determine how "woke" I am. And then wondered aloud how much the Pharisees would have loved that word when Jesus was around making changes to their world.
