Wish Channel 4 would commission Secret Life of Boomers. Psychologists behind one way glass observing the micro-aggressions and deep judgements of the Joans, Lesleys, Colins and Christines whose long-shuttered post-Victorian era parenting traumas unravel over endless tea and biscuits. TV gold.

Theodore Shapiro - Severance (Main Title Theme) Podcast Episode Β· Song Exploder Β· 05/03/2025 Β· 23m

This is good, BUT…

…sadly it doesn’t confirm my theory:

IS THAT PETEY’S MOBILE RINGING ON SILENT AS PART OF THE THEME?

I NEED TO KNOW.

Seems I’m at the Severance Is Everywhere IRL stage of watching S2. Fonts. Shades of blue etc. Got a shock walking past one particular office near Marylebone (it’s a construction company. *apparently*)

Pay to get playlisted? The accusations against Spotify’s Discovery Mode Discovery Mode gets artists noticed in exchange for a 30% royalty reduction. A new book suggests that the platform is squeezing musicians and misleading listeners

Good to see this from @lizpelly.bsky.social’s Mood Machine published in the Guardian, but getting the broader Spotify user base to care feels like the only route to real change.

Major music artists and other influential voices in music/ents are needed. Come on @trientertainment.bsky.social!

Yesterday was a good day for new music. Here are four things I really liked. Also, Damon Locks’ new album came out overnight.

The Best Thing I Heard Today: Tuesday 18 February 2025 Badly Drawn Boy - The Shining (2000)

I wrote this last night, lying on the floor in the dark waiting for my children to sleep. It’s about a song I’ve loved for *sharp intake of breath* 25 years.

The sun burning the frost off the fence this morning. I’ve recommended a wonderful new album by Nyron Higor - perfect for this sort of hopeful start to the day - in today’s post.

Sense of helplessness and detachment definitely factored in. Instead of informing it just fed the hum of anxiety. Most of it I don’t need to know. Should probably concede that there’s very likely an element of me just sulking horribly.

..learnt next to sod all, and was probably just listening to it to avoid engaging with my own brain. The news *adores* Trump. I opted out that day (in favour of music mainly, but also audiobooks) and genuinely feel quite marvellous, clear headed. (but do need to find a new small dose news routine)
