Virginia Union University students sitting at the whites-only lunch counter of Richmond's Thalheimers Department Store.
65 years ago, Virginia Union University students sat at the whites-only lunch counter of Richmond's Thalheimers Department Store. When refused service, they stayed until closing and were arrested for trespassing.
The Richmond 34’s actions led to Thalheimers’ integration.
The ABS challenge system is a beautiful thing. Everson Pereira rung up for an inning-ending strikeout on a 3-2 pitch. But wait! A challenge! Overturned into a walk, then Spencer Jones hits a home run.
It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.
Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.
Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.
@stacegotsbaseball.com just a heads up, a couple of us asked questions under the comment on the Jason Dominguez episode on YouTube last week that weren't in Fanmail Friday.

SCOOP: A US Treasury threat intelligence analysis has designated DOGE staff an ‘insider threat'. An internal email reviewed by WIRED calls DOGE staff's access to federal payments systems “the single biggest insider threat risk the Bureau of the Fiscal Service has ever faced.”
Under no circumstances can Russ Vought—a key architect of Project 2025—be confirmed.
My colleagues and I will be holding the Senate floor ALL night in opposition of his nomination.
$50 fees? Consumers and small businesses have already begun feeling the impact of President Donald Trump's new tariffs, which eliminated a key trade exemption for parcels worth less than $800.

Interesting - Sen. @MarkWarner sounds like he's not 100% decided on the Fairfax casino proposal, but is "concerned it lacked broad-based community support," as @margaretbarthel reports. bluevirginia.us/2025/01/vide...
An earthquake in New Zealand caused the "biggest insured event" in the nation’s history, Jerusalem Demsas writes. What its residents learned in the aftermath a decade ago could help Los Angeles rebuild now:

The DCA collision demands that we come together to find the cause and take action to ensure similar tragedies don’t happen again. Instead, President Trump stokes further division.
I shared my thoughts with @cnn.com’s @lauracoates.com.
The young barista at the Starbucks in a Kroger on Wednesday morning was on the phone with her grandma when I walked up to the counter, and said an unapologetic, unselfconscious "I love you a lot, Grandma" getting off the phone before helping me.
If you were impacted by Hurricane Helene and haven't yet applied for disaster aid due to extenuating circumstances, I encourage you to do so before tomorrow’s extended deadline. Head to www.kaine.senate.gov/helene for more info.
I don't WANT to preach this morning -- JD Vance is not a serious person, he lacks the intellectual chops to do this kind of work, so rewarding his thirst with response is undignified -- but the Spirit demands at least a brief bit of sermonizing
Every one of Virginia’s communities has a story to tell. Our leaders just need to take the time to listen.
As Governor, I’ll bring ideas from every corner of Virginia to Richmond to get things done for Virginians.

This request is for me, and it’s not for an immediate story, but it’s important.
My DMs are open, and I share my cell #/ Signal freely.
Yes. Correct.
Also, as JLo1972 commented here, for mouse lines, cell lines, etc., supplied are required to keep them alive. And samples stored in liquid nitrogen need to not thaw. Etc.
Not to mention clinical trials, where patients are currently being treated.
Jesus Christ. If this extends to liquid nitrogen and mouse chow, hundreds of millions of dollars in reagents like cell lines and genetically engineered mouse models will just die and decades of work will be lost. This will be catastrophic.
Insane
We are saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend and former colleague, Senator Henry L. Marsh, III. He was an extraordinary individual who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, equality, and service to his community.
