He was. :) he was my inspiration and the reason I both was able to say firmly I wanted to be a writer from a young age, and to know that it was unlikely I could make a living from that alone. (He wrote non-fiction, though; weβre very different genres.)
Also, I suspect my uncle was a much more problematic uni lecturer in his time - the Head of English recognised my surname and said, βoh, are you related to x? He swore an awful lotβ¦β
He was teaching a class on βSympathy for the devilβ in the USA at age 80 when he diedβ¦
He didnβt necessarily say βget drunk to writeβ, more βif youβve been to the pub and come back and feel inspired, start writing; itβs worthwhile.β
My uni playwriting lecturer used to encourage us to write drunk, because he said it helped stop writers block. And he said it was easier then to edit something than it was to start from nothing, staring at a blank page.
When I got my first novel published, I let him know. He was fab.

Magic! Now you see them, now you donβt (or rather, the other way around).
A rainbow with its end touching the castle on St Michaelβs Mount. To the left of the picture is a large lamppost and across the bottom is a metal railing in front of the sea and rocky shore around Penzance lido. But most of the photo is taken up with the sky and the rainbow that arcs through it.
Rainbow in the sky above #StMichaelβsMount, taken from #Penzance. It is landing on the island, which needs the sign of hope after over 80 of the trees there were blown down in last monthβs storm.
Beautiful!
(Also almost looks as if it hasnβt got wings, I love the angle!)
Iβm always here for the positive news. π€π»
Honestly, itβs beautiful. I stopped and just stared at it, rather than mindlessly scrolling,
This is gorgeous!
Seascape picture with misty looking land in the background, then sea with waves rolling in towards a beach which is not quite visible beneath a small drop. Above the drop is an area of grass and stones. The sky is grey with hints of cloud.
A #seascape today, for a peaceful scene. #Gwythian looking towards #StIves. #Cornwall #Cornishphotos #photography
Oops. Yes, battery is the issue with phone/ipad reading matter. If it runs out, suddenly your book has vanished..
That isβ¦not encouraging.
The surface of Mars occupies most of the scene, the limb of the planet to the right (with space beyond). In the upper centre is the massive Olympus Mons. The small dark body is the larger of Mars' two moons, Phobos.
Time to post this rather incredible photo again.
The largest volcano in the Solar System, Olympus Mons, with one of the Solar System's smallest moons, Phobos, crossing it.
Photographed from Mars orbit.

It was amazing, just looking over and seeing that the rainbow was directly behind the lighthouse. We werenβt sure whether it would show up on the photo but it actually did really well!
Rainbow looking as though it is coming out of the little rock island on which Godrevy lighthouse stands. Waves are crashing to the left of the island, and there are white waves rolling in towards the shore on the right hand side of the photo.
Amazing view today when we went to #Gwythian. A rainbow over #Godrevy lighthouse. #Cornwall #CornishPhotos #photography #SeaPhotos #RainbowPhoto

Cat curled up on bed; her back legs are in the foreground, and her head is a little way further back, with enormous ears and big green eyes. She has her front paws crossed across her chest.
Itβs #Caturday and I have every reason to spam people with pictures of my gorgeous Zula, so I will take advantage of that. She was my soulmate cat, and I need people to agree that she is beautiful. #CatPhotos #cat #Photography
One of the things about Serengetis is that their ears are the same length as their heads! They are also tiny cats, so theyβre basically like the opposite of Savannahs - they look very similar but instead of being enormous, theyβre tiny.
Very content cat, curled up with her head on her front paws and her tail curled round in front of her. She is a Serengeti, which means she is brown and spotty with a striped tail and big ears.

Sand and pebbles. The photographer has pointed the camera down at the beach and taken a photo. The colours of the pebbles range from white to dark grey, with various shades of brown, grey, and orange in between. The sand goes from almost white to dark brown.
For #WhateverWednesday, Iβm going to post this picture of the beach. No, literally of a patch of beach. I donβt know, I just found it fascinating. #photography
Thank you! Happy my birthday to you too!
St Michaelβs Mount hides in the fog in the background of a picture taken across farmland towards it. A bramble bush covers a lot of the bottom third of the picture, there are then fields of green and yellow respectively; finally, the sea, with the mysterious seeming island only half visible.

I donβt have spoons to do anything but post happy or pleasing things here but I think theyβre needed so have this story about recreating a picture from ET (the first film I saw at the cinema - I fell asleep.

Hurrah for Ecuador. Save the toads!

Good news, even if it should never have been bad news⦠in other words, they should never have had to fight for it, but at least they won.
Cat with large ears and beautiful sea green eyes stares at the camera.
My girlie is not very well, please all think good thoughts for her.
