Maggie Gyllenhaal clearly has a LOT on her mind. While the boldly feminist message she's driving is crystal clear, there's so much else going on it feels like the plane she's flying is about to break apart at any moment. Ultimately I think she lands the plane with a more emotionally grounded ending.
Yes, it's a Frankenstein story, but The Bride! is an unabashedly campy genre mash-up, from Gothic romance to crime thriller to black comedy - think Bonnie & Clyde meets Joker meets Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Did I mention there's also a full-on Thriller-style dance sequence? 'Cause there is. 😅
The Bride! is such a wild, ambitious, chaotic experience that I feel a second viewing is mandatory before I draw any conclusions as to whether or not it "works" for me as a film.
Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale are excellent, though - deliriously committed to the ride. I was always entertained.

Dipped my head very briefly back onto The Bad Place to gauge the reaction of the Film Twitter types I denigrated, and HOOOOO BOY, true to form are far too many of them missing the forest for the trees. For the sane, our preferred viewing experience for our hobby isn't worth having state-run media.
This is especially infuriating.
Like, I wasn't thrilled about Netflix owning WB and the implications of that for the movie business.
But, seriously y'all, get your heads out of your f'ing asses, and realize that this is BIGGER than that.
This is absolutely HORRIBLE.
The richest man owns X.
The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

I know most Film Twitter types will be myopically focused on how keeping WB away from Netflix "protects" theatrical moviegoing and physical media from The Great Streaming Beast, but this has larger implications for the real world, like CNN now falling under the same regime actively ruining CBS News.
So David Ellison refused to accept that he could be beaten and eventually Veruca Salted his way into buying Warner Bros. Charming to the last. 🤢
