๐ฎ Jeepers -- he sounds dreadful!
Ah -- and then did he do the thing where he took all the money for the pre-orders but didn't deliver on the book he had promised folks? I am not well-versed in these things :-/
*sobs in recognition and solidarity* This was a wonderful article and especially sharing your own experiences within the broader context of what happens in the first film, and whenever someone else says this about becoming a parent I flail like "THANK YOUUU" b/c otherwise there's so much stigma ๐ถ
I realize that's also a very AuDHD response and at the same time, I'm like... there are other people who are actively bashing what artists do in film, books, dance, visual arts, and instead of advocating harder for art, you're going to put DOWN other art? Wtf, dude?
Maybe other folks have already said this, and at the same time, my thing was that as a performer, in the arts, who is more than fortunate to be making a living at it, and with his parents, I think his mother is a ballet dancer (?), why did he have to be so cruel about other arts? It's so mean!
AHH I wish I could attend this!
ZOMGGG look at this amazing @tananarivedue.bsky.social cover reveal for MAZYWOOD, her forthcoming book coming out Sep 22, and we're getting a new Tananarive Due book! Gahh!!
AHHH!! Very exciting!
My brain does not comprehend how Milo or other folks who are "influencers" or just... show up with a YT channel one day or something, monetize it and make profits from it. I think it's better if I don't understand lol
I have the thing where, I sent queries over a year ago and still haven't heard back and I know that means "no" but I don't have the heart to update my spreadsheet because it's too depressing (?) ๐ฟ
I want to say something encouraging and supportive without being a twee doink, so I will say I am sending you good energy and I will do all I can to continue to best support and uplift authors of colour ๐
Thanks to Arley Sorg for keeping us all informed and for including me in this questionnaire to share my experiences. Itโs clear there is still much work to be done.

Gahhhh I want to go to this SO MUCH EEVRY YEAARR especially for you, Joe! (not in a creepy way!)
You bet I am disrespectful of anyone who would claim using AI Slop as cover art is even kind of acceptable, but especially of the claim that it's in some way essential or even a net good for authors!
I am so much more than merely disrespectful of that sanctimonious and self serving horseshit!
๐ฑ That was so unprofessional of them, Rhonda! I am so glad that you advocated for yourself
when I was asked earlier this week what's one of the most surprising things about being a writer I should have mentioned how much I have to remind people to pay me. I shouldn't have been surprised by it but it is a constant thing everywhere, big places, small places.

Ever since American Horror Story: Coven, I can only think of the Supreme in that show and I'm like.. damn it, why can't I have witch powers in real life ๐
Last day of my March rent's grace period, and $500 CAD to go.
Not really sure how this gets sorted except someone hiring me for some editorial work.

White woman with brown hair holding a quickly made protest sign reading "Do the math, protect the Arts."
About 100+protestors in a snowy small town
Some folks with their very well-painted signs
Went down to Liverpool the other day to take part in the rally against the NS Govt's terrible budget but proposals.
I've never seen folks so riled, protests across the province.
Incredible turnout for a little place.
Check out the fundraiser linked below! I've donated a book bundle and poetry critique. Funds raised will go toward expanding the Pixel Project's work to end violence against women. I'll be in conversation tonight with Marie Brennan & Rhys Bowen! Join us at 8:30pm EST
