in the dc universe, the democrats are bruce wayne/batman and the professional managerial class is represented as the "good guys", the social workers, police, lawyers, and journalists all trying to restore an always already failing gotham (neoliberal state).
the ambition is to purge the public's violent collective impulse to overthrow oppressive power. maga/trump taps into this collective fervor for an alternative system in yet another way, siphoning those energies back into the re-entrenchment of the capitalist class.
the goal of Joker, like most of DC's batman series, is to image the collective desire for a political alternative to the status quo, pathologize that desire by depicting political discontents as hordes of crazies, and sublimate it through the violent death of the villain extremist.
