I'm glad you got it haha π
Absolutely yes! π (and let's not look too closely for typos just in case haha)
Thank you! Would live to hear your thoughts on it when it's out!
Hahaha cute π
Once I've done my viva and corrections I will be making this publicly available! Excited to share this work and my vision of what archaeological game design can contribute to play preservation, game development and the study of games more broadly!
New Release: Magpie (v0.1 - Sorrow)
Magpie is a visual livecoding tool made in Picotron! Make little art performances in crunchy 480x270 resolution, by writing Picotron code. It runs in the web, on desktops, and on Picotron itself. This is an early release.

Screenshot of the best deckbuilder to ever grace this planet. In this demo, you can experience the core loop of the game. First, you can expect a tutorial. Then you can play with two different characters for the first half of the regular game, along with the βDaily Flightβ: a brand new challenge every single day with a global leaderboard. Hours of playtime await you, and we hope you enjoy every single minute! Sparrow Warfare is a synergy-rich deckbuilder where you make wild combinations of tiles to free birds and battle against the fiendish Storyteller and his minions. In addition, daily flight mode offers endless replayability with different challenging modifiers and global leaderboards. Features: πDeckbuilding: 150+ wildtiles to discover and infinite game-breaking combos to find βΎοΈ Endless Replayability: progressive difficulty, daily flights & challenging modifiers π₯ Multiple Playstyles: suit your personal taste, whether you prefer aggression or cunning π¦βπ₯ Big Bird Action: 100+ birds to free, each one featuring real bird sounds π€Ί Meta-Strategy: experiment with synergies & build new approaches run after run The full game of Sparrow Warfare will include all four different Ways (Fire, Song, Water, and Ghost), the full progression mode up to Level 12 for all four Ways, and Steam achievements. We plan to have full localisation for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish, and Russian in the full game. Sparrow Warfare is developed by just two veteran game developers (Martin Pichlmair & Charlene Putney) who share all of the work between them, but it wouldnβt be as good without the amazing assistance of our loyal playtesters: we love you guys! We truly hope you enjoy our demo. Please wishlist and follow Sparrow Warfare to keep informed about development and help us get the word out there. Fly free little sparrows! Martin & Char
And just like that, we've released our first public demo for Sparrow Warfare. From here on out we're building in the open. And you can be a part of that!
A brown penguin chick of some kind. It looks very much like a man in a suit. It is bedraggled and miserable

Slide that demonstrates that mental models suffer when an archaeologist just uses photogrammetry. The slide text says: Model of mental model creation during photogrammetry Relatively little interaction with complex mental processes that are key to interpretation in archaeology
Teaching Fieldwork & Digital Recording in our special topics module today. I'm still forever salty that one of the reviewers made us take this figure demonstrating the failings of photogrammetry for the creation of mental models out of our Aide Memoire paper. πΊ
As someone who works in a university, I am genuinely blown away by the number of people who want to exist in academia without having to think or write.
This book is an absolute treasure trove of insights from all different perspectives in 100+ short chapters dealing with a huge range of topics about the craft. Canβt recommend it enough!
Delighted to have my chapter, βCite your sources!β, in amongst all the the excellent contributions.
You are so right
ββ¦living within the digital archive disintegrates our basic, linear perception of time...every era is equally available, &all events are potentially happening at the same time, the chain of causality &influence breaks down completely.β
intriguing read c/o @defaultfriend.bsky.social, esp paired w/ qt
I got stuck in a lift on my first day
It barely acknowledges video games either, which feels like a pretty significant oversight if you're going to discuss public history and archaeology in the year 2026
