What we need at scale is policy and funding that support local innovation, energy efficiency upgrades, electrification, and clean heating solutions across NY communities.
This kind of innovation shows what’s possible when communities invest in clean energy alternatives, especially in the face of rising energy costs and climate pressures.
🌱 This Brooklyn high school is heating itself with vegetable oil biofuel, a creative local solution that reduces fossil fuel use and makes good use of food waste.

Clean energy laws like the CLCPA aren’t the problem. They create the framework for timelines and investments in efficiency, renewables, and grid upgrades that benefit all New Yorkers.
This is exactly why statewide climate action matters: good planning, strong financial incentives, and meaningful support are needed so tenants and co-ops aren’t left with even higher costs.
NYC’s next decarbonization milestone is coming quickly, but less than half or buildings are on track to meet the 2030 emissions targets. That means many buildings face expensive penalties if upgrades aren’t made in time.

EANY’s Katherine Nadeau: “We're working closely with our legislative allies & the folks who fought for this law to make sure it stays strong. Not just staying strong in this moment, but that New York is moving toward embracing a climate future that is healthier, more affordable & puts NYers first.”
With budget negotiations still underway, advocates are watching closely because affordability and climate leadership go hand in hand. Strong implementation of CLCPA is how we achieve both.
Gov. Hochul’s amendments to her executive budget didn’t include any changes to our landmark climate law, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), despite whispers that they might.
The Sustainable Future Program aims to put money back in New Yorkers’ pockets through free energy assessments and efficiency upgrades at no cost to households. @nylcv.bsky.social

With the federal government backtracking on climate, state leadership matters more than ever. New York must double down by strengthening climate laws and protecting our communities.
That rollback, which targets the EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gases, is on the precipice of blocking government regulations of climate pollution.
The Trump administration’s biggest climate rollback isn’t a random rule change, it’s the product of years of strategic work by a network of conservative activists dedicated to dismantling U.S. climate policy.

“Two bills in the package specifically target [PFAS]...One of those is Harckham’s second bill in the package, S9073A, which would ban selling consumer products with PFAS intentionally added as of 2028. The ban would apply to common items like paint, carpets, cookware, cleaning supplies, and floss.”
We couldn’t be happier to see one of our 2026 Superbills, outlawing the sale of PFAS-contaminated household products, pass the Senate! We’re grateful to @leaderasc.bsky.social & Senate Environment Committee Chair @senatorharckham.bsky.social for their leadership in advancing this! 🎉

#NYEnviroFund supports 350,000 jobs across the state and nearly $40 billion in economic activity each year. Thank you @GovKathyHochul for proposing a $425 million EPF in your Executive Budget Proposal! #CleanWaterAndJobs
The demand for #NYEnviroFund programs has long outpaced available funding. By including a $425 million #NYEnviroFund in the final budget, @GovKathyHochul @NYSenate @NYSA_Majority can protect New Yorkers as well as our water, air, and land.

But the rule change is based on a report by a shady team of climate deniers, which was produced in secret and is full of errors — and environmentalists have sued. Good news: this is one case where Trump’s reckless campaign against responsible environmental policy may hit a wall.
Repealing the rule would strip the EPA of its legal authority to take actions that would lower climate emissions, which could impact regulations on everything from auto fuel efficiency to power plants to manufacturing.
