The current system is simply not working, and this move would provide much needed clarity and protection for interns.
There needs to be a crystal-clear message, backed with legal enforcement, that unpaid internships are both illegal and discriminatory.

Unpaid and underpaid internships - The Sutton Trust
Our survey of graduates and employers reveals the state of play in internships.
Our own research backs this up too.
Three quarters of employers offering internships told us banning unpaid internships wouldn’t negatively impact the number of opportunities they provide.

The call for evidence allowed the Government to gather views from a wide range of stakeholders (including businesses and employers, trade unions, and workers), to inform the action they should take to put an end to unpaid internships.

📣 Govt has published its response to their call for evidence on unpaid internships.
While we welcome the commitment to ending unpaid internships and ensuring both employers & interns are more aware of their rights to minimum pay, we’re disappointed they've stopped short of an explicit legal ban 🧵⤵️

AI is already being used in schools across the country.
But our research found growing inequalities in how schools are adopting the technology and what they’re doing to help teachers to use it.
Here's how we can address this rapidly emerging issue ⬇️

Mocking people for their class is discrimination – so why don’t we treat it as such?
‘Banter’ about where you’re from or how you speak is harder to define than racism or sexism, but it is damaging.

The attainment gap is caused by a variety of factors in the home and at school.
Poverty undeniably plays a major role, while educational factors include:
🟢Inadequate school funding
🔵Unequal access to quality teaching
🟣Unfair school admissions

The knock-on effects of the attainment gap are severe, limiting young people’s options for further and higher education and closing off career paths they might aspire to.
This not only limits opportunities for individuals, but also means our economy misses out on potential talent.

Children from less well-off homes start school already behind classmates, and gaps in their attainment widen further through primary and secondary school.
By GCSEs, the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers is equivalent to 19.1 months of development.

📣 We’ve long been advocating for a national mission to close the attainment gap, and this is a significant first step.

And while there were large differences in private tutoring by ethnicity, few were seen in school-based tutoring.

🏫There has also been a dramatic decline in the ability of state schools to provide tutoring support in recent years.
This matters, because school-based tutoring can be the only way many poorer pupils can access a tutor.
