Yeah of course, Famicom Top Management is a good callout, kind of interesting to me that was allowed with how Nintendo has a reputation for being conservative...so the trend of everything being "Super" was the first mega naming trend, and Family was a mini trend (Bandai/Namco/Nintendo)
I wonder if bunch of games named Family were because it sounded โclose enoughโ, was smart naming imo. Like a bunch of games starting Fami Dig Dug, Fami Black Bass etc would have been interesting but Nintendo probably would have stopped it if they didnโt want that ..even outside of copyright LOL
There are some low rated ones that probably deserve it but like Super Xevious having 2.5 star rating...bro it is Xevious, game was super influential on many game musicians. A complicated one is Athena, beloved game but the port/music could have been better. Not a 2 star to me...
BTW the ratings system on vgmrips should be taken with a grain of salt...it is sort of dogpiling reviews on the popular games and some of the low rated ones are nonsense / out of whack based on just not being well known, there are some from top ranking lists in Japan that have low star average
i am going to take a wild guess that the song Deep Dungeon II Dungeon Floor 3 is not supposed to be 45 minutes long (it would be awesome if that were the case) vgmrips.net/packs/pack/d...
Snippet about Faxanadu from Famimaga 1987 that I have been going through the past few days
This is the only preview I know of that spells Faxanadu like Fa-Xanadu (ใใกใปใถใใใฅ), I wonder if they were going to go with that to more clearly call out that it is a Xanadu game but changed mind? Also this gives a strong implication that it stands for Famicom Xanadu...(maybe this is a known thing)
"orange cards" from JR East featuring Super Mario Bros
Who do we have to talk to at JR to bring these SMB cards back...
Maynard did the Amoeba what's in my bag thing #toolband www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxX-...
Example of coverage of the game and tournament
Champion of golf Oomori-san
Ad for US course with Punch Out sneaky on the bottom right
Another ad with very cute artwork of Mario and Peach in different golf related poses/situations, and how to receive a golden disk cart as a contest
The Mario Golf games were a pretty huge hit in 1987, with additional courses being released almost like DLC, in person/mail in tournaments and tons of advertising, but it took until 1991 to be released for NES with various content combined from the versions en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Ope...
An old ad for NIKE "Lander" shoes
ad for GTV with some green hair person floating head above a cartoon body
There was a marketing technique over-used in magazines to feature some face or zoomed in head, it was not limited to just game ads. The human psychology of responding to a face continues to this day with cursed YouTube thumbnails...
Didn't know it was going to snow in Tokyo today...seems pretty big flakes too, not sure if it will stick
Same photo in much higher quality as part of an ad for Super Lode Runner
Same photo in much higher quality as part of an ad for Super Lode Runner (right side of the ad, mostly featuring Lode Runner)
Damn this is quite an upgrade...(again what I get going through magazine in chronological order...)
Burst Error doing a nice Sega Master stream on the Twitch homepage now www.twitch.tv/burst_error
The team members of Broderbund all sitting in front of a two story office building with some seen in chairs on the right side and two long signs being held up, with some sosrt of signature / message written in ink on the top right and Broderbund Software at the top
This almost looks like a post card, Broderbund team circa 1987
Color corrected to best of my ability, squatting in the middle is Tanaka-san and you can see computers with a game screen in the middle monitor all set up on metal racks behind them
Amazing photo of Square development members on the "Suishou no Dragon" project, including Miki Yukinoura (้ชใๆตฆ็พๆจน) and Hiromichi Tanaka (็ฐไธญๅผ้) @vgdensetsu.bsky.social has a nice profile for Miki vgdensetsu.net/mikiyukinoura/

The Zelda II advertisement is too powerful for anywhere but the back of a magazine
Megaton??
A whole back page ad for the newly introduced Famicom Disk System
Speaking of things never released outside Japan, it is an interesting thought experiment to try to imagine what would have happened if Nintendo went worldwide with the FDS...can you imagine what Western games would have benefited from it the most?
An ad for Capri Sonne by Glico with someone looking shocked while holding a spoon of some yellow frozen substance
Capri...Sonne? "...invented the drink in 1969 and introduced it in West Germany as Capri-Sonne (a name retired in favor of the English name in 2017)"
It's kind of wild that Nintendo straight up just denied the rest of the world of Super Mario Bros 2 LOL
F1 is now like a video game apparently which means everyone will overtake each too much and cause too many crashes? (Sounds like a crowd pleaser thoughโฆ) www.bbc.com/sport/formul...
Front page of a section of a preview of 62 new games as a new years end special from Famimaga, illustration by Estuyoshi Miyamoto
Quite a powerful collection of characters in this one...can you identify them all? Artist: Etsuyoshi Miyamoto (ๅฎฎๆฌใใคใใ)
now famous children's book illustrator #nes #famicom
Whoa I never played this oneโฆI always remember liking the vibe of Rise of the Dragon. Lately I discovered Dreamweb which also has vibes
That almost makes it more appealing to me, I could probably fit three different TVs/monitors side by side if they are smaller but I don't have one of those fancy RGB monitors (yet...)
Anyway it is probably less Watership Down level of violence and death than Bird Week is...so I wanted to try to play this sometime...
The main version of the ad featuring cute cat in the middle circle photo frame (Milo?) and four screenshots, with release of September 12 called out
Second variation of the ad featuring mostly sccreenshots and a call out to Super Pitfall at the bottom
Koneko Monogatari the movie has a soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto...I bet if you hacked in an improved soundtrack to this game more closely matching the film it would have a much better impression on people. The one interesting comment I saw is that "the way leaves blow is amazing"
So many unreleased games from "DOG" the group of companies banding together to port games from computers or make unique games for Famicom - I can barely find information about some of these pony.velvet.jp/fcdisk/fmcmd...
