I had to get up and pace around to stop crying while writing this 😭

shoutout to this magnificent piece of public art
Condé Nast forgot to renew the trademark for Gourmet and so a group of journalists grabbed it and are relaunching the food magazine as a worker-owned co-op. Love it. [gourmetmagazine.net]
And the cafe inside is incredible

In the Miami airport. Oohh… Aahhh.
At least I knew it was fiction, but I kept waiting for the jokes and just got more and more petrified 😭 I would have passed out if I caught this on TV back in 1992!
The poster for the BBC special “Ghostwatch.”
My local indie theater described “Ghostwatch” as a “parody” and a “prank.” I, a horror weenie, loaded it up thinking it was a comedy 😭 😭 😭 It is…not a comedy.
Ooh, this is cool!
Drawing of a heraldic device consisting of an escutcheon with a hot dog being knighted by a man, in place of standard helmet is a jar of mustard, labeled "sinapi," supported by two wiener dogs on either side. Banderole below reads "CALIDUS CANIS"
Hot dog coat-of-arms, created for the 50th anniversary of the invention of the hot dog, at Coney Island in 1939. Shows a hot dog being knighted, flanked by two wiener dogs, crowned by mustard. (They took some liberties with the Latin, but do you expect a hot dog place to have an in-house Latinist?)
I wonder if he likes the painting!
Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

jerry brown's portrait in the window of the California State Capitol building
wikipedia entry for Jerry Brown's gubernatorial portrait
My favorite thing about the California state capitol building is that, at night, you can see Jerry Brown's "controversial" portrait inside from half a mile away
Hey, congrats!
It's a local favorite!
La Vic's for Mexican (and orange sauce), CA Bakehouse for pastries, Duc Huong for Vietnamese sandwiches.

I’m not as familiar with the live music scene but there’s a lot of venues and shows going on!
I’m a movie person so I like how there’s the Dreamland, Tower, and Crest theaters for classic/indie film plus the Esquire for IMAX stuff. The area’s big on farmer’s markets and fun food events, plus there’s the occasional fashion markets like World’s Worst Expo.
Summer is very hot! But there is lots of fun stuff to do.
It does have a good rep! Your cousin is wise.
I'd recognize Pizza Supreme Being anywhere haha
(like the horse statue in Denver)
