Universities staying quiet in hopes that they remain unscathed wasn't really a viable strategy...
California: In 2024, 13 schools received more than $10 million in NIH grants, for a total of $3.7 billion. Of that, $2.4 billion went directly to research and $1.3 billion went to facilities and administration. The new rate would bring that to $350 million, a loss of about $900 million.
This is a very scary time for early career scientists like people looking for/who are postdocs and new faculty trying to get funding. Any words of encouragement to share for people in this category?

My advisory council meeting for my ARC F99/K00 was scheduled for yesterday at noon. I don’t think it happened. Would have changed my career- I got a promising score from my SS back in Nov. I feel devastated, defeated, and just so disappointed.
