Just to clarify: we are doing head start. Early access is a term steam uses for paid access to an alpha or a game in pre-release stage, which we are not doing. Dune: Awakening will release as a full release game :)

Headstart servers have their own Deep Desert version. The servers being added after the 20th will have their own versions of the Deep Desert, and you won't run into any headstart players unless you actively choose to play on a headstart server. @duneawakening.com
