As Bike Cars Overflow, Caltrain Bans Large Bikes and Panniers - Streetsblog San Francisco
New rules heavily restrict the types of bikes Caltrain users can bring on board. Years ago advocates warned Caltrain that they weren't allotting enough bike space on the new trains
This need to be called out at perpetuating sexist policies that privilege bikers without child carrying, errand running responsibilities. Caltrain would never consider banning kids from trains, why is it ok to make it impossible for parents who travel bike to use the system?

Our economy is bleeding jobs. Prices are up, especially for gas. Yet the White House prioritizes tax cuts for billionaires, while launching a reckless new Middle East war.
It doesn't have to stay this way - not if the American people make our voices heard.

The amount of times as a software engineering manager I've had to explain to junior and middleweight (and hell, some senior) devs "you're not paid to code; you're paid to solve problems" is something that even Claude can't answer. π

I see Soccer Dome are at it again opposing the Birkenhead Road cycle path upgrades (a key route between Seacombe Ferry, Wirral Waters, New Brighton etc) because it would remove the free on street parking they leach off. Well this time we're prepared for the fight.

The constraint on output isnβt really labour or materials. Itβs the low-density development model that these parasitic companies rely on.
And critically, denser developments also don't add huge ongoing liabilities on to council and utility company's maintenance budgets.

If you shift from building single-family homes that financially strangle buyers thanks to high purchase and transportation costs to denser, more efficient housing, you can easily triple or quadruple the number of homes produced per site, while also improving affordability without impacting margins.

When a company like Taylor Wimpey says it can build ~11,000 homes a year, that number is constrained less by labour or materials and more by their business model. That's because it relies on large green field sites and phased releases to keep prices propped up.

Perhaps the issue is they need to stop building car dependent hellscapes on the edges of towns and cities like this and instead start building car-free and car-light dense mixed use developments in the centre of towns and cities instead if they're so concerned about first time (and other) buyers.

"But they're parking in my part of the road".
Nope. It's nobody's part of the road. It's the councils' and the only duty they have to ensure the ability to pass and repass. In fact, for many councils, they are already in breach of that by allowing on-street parking.

This problem is only become more pressing if the government doesn't act quickly to make it clear that if you want to buy an EV and charge it at home, you MUST have off-road parking. Lamp post charging points on quieter roads is a partial solution, but we can all see what will happen if they don't.

We should be like Japan where on-street parking is prohibited on urban and city roads. If you don't have a place to park you car on private property, you can't own a car.

Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. But right now, theyβre under attack.
Several Republican-controlled states have redrawn their congressional maps to give themselves an unfair advantage in the midterm elections.

Not to mention it'll cause councils a huge number of headaches when someone else parks in 'their' spot.
The council would be far better telling them to buy a house with a driveway if they want an EV.

More 'vehicles' use the narrow C6 cycle track on the left than on the motorised vehicle lanes on the right.
