me and the other scheming viziers are wearing shoes gifted to us by the king that are way too big. we look ridiculous. the whole court is laughing at us behind our backs. honestly this is a pretty low point for us, the scheming viziers

Right now, if gen AI is particularly good at a task, I think it's most typically a sign that that task is busywork that shouldn't exist. But corporations are conflict averse so, instead of doing anything about that, I think they're going to let the tech multiply the existence of such tasks.
Happy anniversary of accidentally legalised drugs in Ireland day to all who celebrate.
This Is America (as big as a music video could be in 2018 anyways)
Could an empire in decline do THIS? *launches deeply unpopular invasion cementing status as lunatic-led pariah state, its not clear what kind of move i was trying to do*
I genuinely feel crazy when people act like this shit is inappropriate for children's literature, having grown up reading both Jacqueline Wilson and people trying and failing to be as good as Jacqueline Wilson
Some people are responding to this saying this doesn't extend to the more horrific things a child might experience, but I think that's incorrect and misguided. Yes, how you depict it and talk about it matters deeply, but things like abuse, neglect, self-harm, can all absolutely be tackled in kidlit.

I'm begging the small local community groups in Ireland to please consider reframing their use of AI design work this way. The amount of drama and theatre groups in my sphere that I see using AI posters now just makes me sad.
I miss this hero every day
I did an online A2 (so refreshers/back to Irish level) class with Gael Linn last year and really enjoyed it! Have also heard good things about Conradh na Gaeilgeβs online classes
Anyone who wants to ban social media for under 16s who hasnβt started by getting algorithmic feeds turned off and strong enforcement of existing regulations cares about βbeing see to care about kidsβ much more than actually caring about kids
Simpsons writer John Swartzwelder on writing: "I always write my scripts all the way through as fast as I can, the first day, if possible, putting in crap jokes and pattern dialogue - "Homer, I don't want you to do that." "Then I won't do it." Then the next day, when I get up, the script's been written. It's lousy, but it's a script. The hard part is done."
reupping this bad boy. best writing advice i've ever taken
The thing about Casablanca being the greatest film of all time is people don't believe you and then they watch it

I was a miserable teenager and meeting folks on MySpace and Twitter from gigs was honestly my saving grace. Social media sucks but isolating lonely teens isn't necessarily the solution without even trying to regulate these tech companies

Sick to death of generative AI being shoved down our throats every single time you open an app or tool now. I want to write my own sentences! Fuck off!
MicheΓ‘l Martin has been a TD for 37 years. Heβs been in government for 25 of those years and in cabinet for 20 of those years. Heβs been either TΓ‘naiste or Taoiseach since June 2020.
And every time heβs asked to anything other than build a data centre, he acts like heβs just been handed the job
finally, nominating all those no-hoper obscure irish artists in the polls for years paid off π«‘ (been listening to cmat since her first single came out! one of the few times iβve been significantly ahead of the curve lol)
My hot take about the βstudents cannot read whole novels / watch whole films / etc.β is that they can learn to do it. None of us are born with attention spans suited for long media. It is a learned skill and can be developed with practice.

I know I don't shut up about this but, fellow Irish people, if you see a racist sticker when you're out and about, then tear it off.
It takes ten seconds.
Even if you only manage to tear away a part of it, it shows that your neighborhood doesn't stand with the small, hateful people that put them up
