Reminder to #media for when Pathways Alliance carbon capture ends up on “project of national interest” list so it can bypass environmental laws: 10 First Nations & 2 Métis associations have asked federal govt a full Impact Assessment of this "massive and unprecedented project".

Sadly, Bill C-5 doesn't advance any of those priorities. But I sure won't be forgetting how quickly this legislation moved through the House and Senate. Turns out it is possible to get big things done when we care enough.

Let's put the things that really matter to Canadians on the fast-track. Time with their loved ones. Protection from climate disasters. Affordable housing. Access to good public healthcare and education. Indigenous rights.

It may not be as easy to cut a ribbon on decreased deaths due to avoided pollution, and it sure as hell isn't simple to calculate the avoidance of loss, but wouldn't it be nice if the federal government paid more attention to that than whatever the C-suite is peddling around Ottawa these days.

I'm calling on PM @mark-carney.bsky.social to remember that hundreds of thousands of families depend on an eroding social safety net. That is a form of infrastructure, and would go way beyond pipelines in terms of nation-building.

Among the lessons learned from the ramming through of Bill C5: all that was needed to move swiftly on big transformative infrastructure projects this whole time was political will.

Delay is a choice. Inaction is a choice. Imagine what we could have if politicians put their minds to achieving it. 🧵

Agree, I think of AI as similar to single use plastic. There may be some useful applications- like discrete targeted medical devices - but packaging every damn thing we drink or buy in it wrecks the planet. Maybe AI helps detect cancer in mammograms; cool do that but stop editing my emails.
