This is a real eye opening on review of Figmaβs new Sites product
We have a number of web component teams so itβs helpful to differentiate by tag prefix so that we know what team produced the component. We also support a prefix in front of design system components to allow for multiple versions to be used on the same page if needed (to be avoided if possible).
Hey hey π
Anyone found a smooth way to remove older tokens/variables without making it tough for consumers using them directly?
A great breakdown of the recent design token changes to the Salesforce LDS by @donnie.damato.design
This is a great take
Accessible design is the best design for everyone regardless of what decisions the government makes.
We have some level of visual regression tests for each of our components and are trying to improve coverage. Sometimes those types of tests are better at catching issues than standard unit tests for non functional components (ex. Tile, divider, etc)
Iβm a stressed ravens fan
Ravens are looking unstoppable tonight!
Even after a decade of building design systems, Iβm still amazed at how much thought and effort go into creating even a simple component.
Building DS components is not trivial. They need to be incredibly robust to function across all applicable contexts and with all applicable contents. They⦠(1/3)
If one exists or we are able to achieve it, I was thinking we could reuse our test suite to validate the react component look and feel/functionality
Yeah we havenβt invested the time but Iβve been thinking we could modify the existing wrapper generator to create the examples but my concern is the bad react code you mentioned.
Just curious, Konnor, if you were to do it over again, how might you do it differently?
Totally with you but it takes a while for teams to upgrade to react 19 and weβve been supporting the wrappers for a bit now. We have great web component docs but very little when it comes to react and teams have noticed so Iβm trying to find the quickest path to a solution.
Has anyone generated @lit.dev react wrapper docs/templates based on web component examples?
Happy new year! π₯³
So true about execs liking grass roots initiatives! Those who handle design and code everyday see problems that may not always bubble up as an immediately funded project. After we stood up our innersourced system, our approach was praised by senior leadership and is still spoken about years later π
Finally!
@uxdx.com just posted some great takeaways from the talk I gave earlier this year about running a design system like a business. I covered a lot in this talk, so if you like the thread, give it a watch!

Thanks! Hope it helps anyone who might be on the fence
Any chance you could add me in there?
π weve been building our design system at T. Rowe Price using web components for the past few years. Would love an add!

βWeβve helped organizations build design systems in a multitude of technologies over the years, but as time goes by we now heartily recommend one specific technology to build a core design system for the web: Web Components.β - Brad Frost

Anyone working on design systems supporting native mobile apps?
Interested to read the ongoing research on GOV.UK's 'Exit this page' pattern, for screens with sensitive content: https://designnotes.blog.gov.uk/2023/08/14/exit-this-page-fast-with-the-design-systems-new-component/
Excited to share this great conversation I had with Alex Smith on the Design Leader Insights podcast, where we take a quick dive into design system strategy and elements for successful implementation. Check It out! https://youtu.be/1n1kpxoZvxM
