This photograph captures the serene waters of Frog Lake in Mt. Hood National Forest, with a stunning view of a very bare Mt. Hood in the background.

The lake acts as a natural mirror, reflecting the image of the majestic mountain and the surrounding evergreen forest with remarkable clarity.

The sky is clear, painted in hues of blue, and a few wispy clouds add texture to the scene. The dense forest frames the lake, with tall, dark green trees lining the water's edge.

This close-up photograph features a solitary rock resting on the sandy shore. The rock is covered in patches of lichen, giving it a textured, mottled appearance.

The surrounding sand is smooth and golden, creating a striking contrast with the dark, weathered surface of the rock. Water has gently eroded the rock, shaping its contours and edges over time.

The overall composition highlights the natural beauty and intricate details found in coastal landscapes.

This photograph depicts the aurora borealis lighting up the night sky over Mt. Hood, as viewed from Sherrard Point on Larch Mountain.

The aurora's vibrant green and purple colors create a stunning display above the mountain's snow-covered peak. The dark forested landscape below contrasts with the luminous sky, enhancing the dramatic effect of the northern lights.

The image beautifully captures the rare and mesmerizing spectacle of the aurora borealis during the May 10th geomagnetic storm.

A timeless, long exposure photograph of Tiumpan Head Lighthouse in Scotland. The lighthouse stands tall on a rocky outcrop on the Isle of Lewis, a stoic guardian overlooking the vast expanse of the sea. The stillness of the moment is preserved in monochrome hues, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the quiet beauty of this coastal scene.

The Zeller's Bolete in its fruitbody selection stage is nestled in a bed of fallen leaves and moss, its cap already showing the dark pigmentation and velvety texture that it's known for, ready to emerge as a culinary treat.

Despite its unassuming appearance when young, the Zeller's Bolete matures into an edible mushroom with a flavor described as mild or slightly acidic, making it a subtle yet versatile ingredient for foragers and chefs alike.

In addition to its culinary uses, the Zeller's Bolete plays an important ecological role as a mycorrhizal fungus, forming symbiotic associations with trees like the Douglas fir, enhancing forest health.

Predominantly found in the moist, coniferous forests of the Pacific Northwest from British Columbia to Mexico, this species contributes to the biodiversity of these ecosystems.
