SCBWI ATX Mini MFA Conference Fall 2025. Illustrator Workshop #2: 1:20-2:40 PM. Mallory Grigg, Art Director. Discover Your Publishing Niche: Unpacking formats to figure out just where you fit in. I explore the wide range of illustrators I hire, from picture books to non-fiction artwork, as well as opportunities in graphic novels, middle-grade, and beyond. We discuss how to develop and highlight your strengths and get your artwork into the right hands, rather than trying to chase trends or fit your portfolio to what the industry wants. While this session is primarily geared towards illustrators, it also contains helpful information for authors looking to expand their understanding of the wide range of formats in kid lit and the various possible writing opportunities available in the industry.
I am SO SO SO excited to head down to Austin this September for an in-person #SCBWI conference (with a spectacular faculty roster)! I hope to see you there! @scbwiatx.bsky.social #atxscbwiconf25
