So far one takeaway is this: all these things we as a society do to control or deter unhoused/drug-using ppl—displacement, loss, hostile noise environments—just increases drug use. Drugs are cheap and available and effectively numbs anguish.

The entire town of Duncan is filled with a high-pitched squealing noise intended to deter loitering. I stopped there to rest my brain last night but the noise had the opposite effect. I was returning from Nanaimo where I was interviewing about how built environment helps ppl survive/succumb to OD.

I have 3 minutes to convince a large international audience of prescribers that based on my thesis research, the body of clinical research is largely asking the wrong questions while under-paying and over-burdening participants!

Lots of things need money and support right now which I am cognizant of! However, stimulant users are dying of exposure to the toxic drug supply and some users require a pharmacological intervention. We have one but everyone thinks it “doesn’t work” because of misinformation and bad research.

I mean it’s a dumb idea, but essentially, why is one group of people engaging with drug users and assisting them
in bettering their lives while they are still using “enabling” but the other group is “building recovery capital”? I’m serious. Like what am I missing here?
