There are times in life when a creative nonfiction writer’s story writes itself. This fall, in grief + change, I wore gold snake earrings. One day a new friend asked me what I wanted. I felt a shift, an opening. Touched my earlobe as I answered. I’d lost the back of my earring. Snake season over.
