Obama: "We are living in a time where it can be hard to hope. Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions. Another setback to the idea of the rule of law ... but this man - Rev. Jesse Jackson - inspires us to take a harder path ... bc if we don't step up, nobody else will"
Lacking a subscription I'm just reposting for the blurb. JP and romantasy???
Also, I'm not sure who FB thinks I am, but it showed me the surf forecast for Maui. ::blinks:: Even if I was a surfer, why would I go further than Margaret River?
Courtesy of diving down the fundraising socks rabbit hole yesterday, I learned that bilby bucket hats exist! "In your Easter bonnet..."
(and if you're not Aussie and don't know that bilbies are our marsupialian attempt to replace bunnies for Easter, my singing sounds randomly absurd)

Bright yellow daffodils with deep orange trumpet coronas in spring sunlight, photographed close-up with soft green foliage and more blooms blurred in the background. One fresh flower faces forward while another nearby shows a slightly withered petal.
The word βjubilantβ comes from Latin βjubilareβ meaning to βshout for joyβ or βrejoiceβ, and is sometimes associated with a fanfare of trumpets. What better word to describe daffodils, the colourful trumpet-flowers that herald the arrival of spring! #FlowersOnFriday
The House of Lords Digital & Communications Committee just published their report on AI, copyright & the creative industries, and their conclusions could not be clearer.

Don't be fooled by the appearances! At first glance, these look like early printed books, but it is an ingenious chest of drawers. Has anyone seen this elsewhere?
It's fascinating to realise that the thick layered medieval European fashions were because of the mini ice age. So many things that look strange actually have a good reason.
Yes. A lot of what we individually berate ourselves for is unavoidable, systematic. And it feels like it's getting worse.

This had better be fake news or else I officially give up on 2026! Oh, look, there's a sharknado off Cottesloe ::sigh::
Oh wow! Handmade socks! You're a wonderful gift-giver - we'll allow you socks and Birkenstocks ;)
[I went to find a socks + sandals gif and got sidetracked to cat + sandals. Too cute!]
Whew. It looks like Amazon's book pages are back up. I rely on Kindle Unlimited for much of my income (I know, I know, all eggs in one basket is dumb), so if you're rushing off to one-click some books, please consider "Stars Die" - mystery, magic, futurism!

Oh that's a brilliant idea! I'd forgotten that I used to buy WWF socks, back when Woolworths stocked them. Socks as fundraisers - and publicity if shown off in sandals ;)
Stunning view of the Westerkerk by Jan van der Heyden. Wish I were there right now! Today is his day.
That's what I've been expecting to hear.
I've always been on the "NO!" side of the debate, can socks be worn with sandals? But the older I get, the more that belief wavers. Maybe if the socks are really cute? I haven't compromised my lifelong beliefs - yet.
An ancient woolly sock from #Roman Egypt - with a split between the big toe & the other toes so that you could wear it with sandles! #AncientBlueSky

Me: Why the hell is this hitting so hard?
Brain: Have you considered unresolved trauma?
Me: No, this is completely different, and besides that was 20 years ago.
Brain: You might want to have a little think about what unresolved means and get back to meβ¦

It shows a photograph that used double exposure to make it appear as though a man were being attacked by a ghost.
Did you know?
In the Victorian era, people worried that the newly invented telephone might disturb the dead.
They lived in a culture deeply fascinated by spiritualism. SΓ©ances, mediums, and attempts to communicate with the dead were common in respectable parlors.

I'm not the best on grammar, but I have happy memories of drilling in it back in primary school. Tiny classroom. really hot summer, terrible at the time. But now nostalgic. And I'm so proud of the teachers at our small school who set us up for life.
That friendly informality - our voices! - if I put on my conspiracy hat I wonder if all the people who struggle to effectively communicate want to flatten everything so that their dullness becomes the norm.
Went outside to clear my mind. Literally touched grass. Listened to the birds (and traffic). Calm.
So happy for you - and her!
