Regularly recorded on the waterhole camera, it was a treat to see this perentie warming up in the early morning sun on weekend visit to the camera site #watarrkanationalpark #kingscanyon #centralaustralia
It is National Invasive Species Awareness Week in the US, so it seems fitting to post this image of a red fox that appeared on a Watarrka NP waterhole camera. Foxes are an invasive species in Australia and a fox control program is now in place in the park.
Skinny but healthy - a dingo at the perennial rockhole, Watarrka National Park
A young dingo at the perennial spring #watarrkanationalpark#kingscanyon #centralaustralia
Not an upside down waterfall but the reflection of the waterfall that appeared on the perennial rockhole camera after a major rainfall event. Reconyx cameras can survive a short dunking-hopefully this is the case here #watarrkanationalpark #kingscanyon #centralaustralia
Perenties are very curious animals but possibly do not have great memories. They usually inspect the waterhole camera very closely (which is why this pic is not in focus) - the location of the camera has not changed over the decade of recording #watarrkanationalpark#kingscanyon#centralaustralia
During the warmer months a perentie (the largest Oz lizard species) appears almost daily on the ephemeral stream camera trap walking along the dry stream bed #watarrkanationalpark #kingscanyon #centralaustralia
Young dingoes often appear on the Watarrka waterhole cameras at this time of year. The white tips on their tails may make them easier to recognise next year #watarrkanationalpark #kingscanyon #centralaustralia
Very grateful that I have been part of of the generation of women for whom having a career in science was a reality-something that my Mum would have liked but as a girl could not even imagine was achievable #InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience #CDU

The monsoon has finally arrived-incoming at Mindil Beach this morning.
Love a good honest government ad. youtu.be/JBqVVBUdW84
A jabiru, aka black-necked stork, at Fogg Dam on Wednesday.
Posting a pic of the spectacular arid zone dragonfly, the scarlet percher, Diplacodes haematodes, to celebrate World Wetlands Day (Feb 2). Dragonflies are at the top of many wetland invertebrate food chains & their presence is a useful indicator of a healthy aquatic ecosystem.
An exciting pic! This is the first time in over a decade of camera trap records from remote Watarrka NP waterholes that a warru, aka black-footed rock wallaby, has appeared on camera with a joey.

Perhaps the best image in November from the remote waterhole camera series-a Little Eagle at the temporary stream pool #WatarrkaNationalParkKingsCanyon #centralaustralia

The white-necked heron pair at Watarrka NP, Kings Canyon
This stick suggests that a nest is being built nearbyβ¦β¦white-necked heron at Watarrka National Park, central Australia
Having joined the exodus from X this is my first post from a waterhole camera in Watarrka National Park. Recent rains in central Australia means that this normally temporary pool remains full - and it appears to have attracted a pair of white-necked herons. This one has spotted the camera!
Find a green space in Darwin atm & you will probably see magpie geese
Fishing success for a young jabiru at Mindil Beach this morning
A family Xmas catchup in Tasmania is also a chance to see local fauna, spotting a quoll is a possibility, but not a Tassie tiger
Love these Oz Xmas ornaments, as an invertebrate aquatic ecologist I especially love how large the shrimp is relative to the cockatoo π
