It's March! That means brackets, matchups, predictions - for Manie Musicale 2026 that is (what did you think I was talking about?) - loving that it's a big deal for French/immersion students in so many places.

Yes, given that multiple reviews have occurred with public findings.

I always find Weather Network projections more moderate and accurate

Living on THE side/block that multiple neighborhoods walk to LRT on - I know the pain of snow getting packed down before I can get the blower on it and do the whole block. Have to get up at 4-5:30 sometimes

Don't worry, they'll legislate to lower the threshold again.

Not to mention, not getting gas in years, refilling it before returning it was an odyssey of gas stations closed past 11 PM on a Sunday, had to try 3 to find one open and my time was higher than an E-GMP topup at Flo Ultra would've been. But I can't get a national column published on that probably.

A few weeks ago borrowed my ex-RAV4 Hybrid from parents for 3-4 days of in town use in a cold snap without remote starter or indoor parking and... hated the experience of cold car, scraping ice off etc., loud/slow engine...

Turo rental of a '23 Ioniq 6 AWD w/ winter tires this weekend - EV9 was unavailable for the drive to Edmonton and back. May need DCFC given temps / lack of hotel charging, so stuck to E-GMP for good charge curve. Have YouTubed how the pre-CCNC pre-conditioning / maps work and all set.

You forgot never ending unsustainable sprawl

10.03.2026 21:53 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes but underlying issue of unsustainable development pattern and too low taxes still exists

How much did the ring road cost

The anatomical implications of those figures (where did the hand get in) are... disturbing

Hard to get new Sprawl members nowadays! So busy w/ stories that I don't have time to make proper appeals. Also I feel like I've said the same thing 1000x and am sick of hearing myself say it. Even soβ€”if you value independent journalism, pls support our work! sprawlcalgary.fundjournalism.org/donate/

It’s less impressive when you consider I’ll be between 50-55% of consumption not counting gas furnace below -10 C. Have to β€œunbeefy” the house’s heat load next

It’s happening! We were sad to sell our last place after putting rooftop solar on. 10 kW DC array going up this week despite the snow. About 21 months after our move here, and thx to federal Greener Homes Loan (0% for 10 years)

Which is precisely the key argument most folks make against density. Not great

08.03.2026 17:34 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Newer areas in both AB cities are a decent density. What’s often lacking is the mixed use part without which it’s …
just more cars with less space

The subservient constitutional status of most US/Canadian cities, subject to whims of rural and suburban-biased state/provincial governments, doesn’t help

They’re probably pissed off that the riverfront is β€œclosed” - kind of like Clover Point in Victoria

Seeing this in Canada too - β€œwe feed them and provide the natural resources, why do the cities get all the votes?”

08.03.2026 03:36 πŸ‘ 8 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah those shorter distances would change the calculation! Those are one way distances for me. School is painful sacrifice for French immersion - 8 could walk to the regular school 5 doors down.

3 km to school for us, 5-6 to daycare.

It’s the face covering that I avoid by putting them inside, so mine are on until at least afternoons are double digits

07.03.2026 21:15 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The wind nearly ripped / removed mine today. Good idea when it’s double digits to get rid of it, brain just not working that way in March

Excellent cargobike rain cover sailing conditions out there. Super warm so still worth it! #yycbike

Alberta regulator rejects Canada’s largest data centre | The Narwhal Lack of public consultation means project that would have consumed as much power as Edmonton won’t go ahead β€” for now

The Alberta Utilities Commission has rejected a proposal for a massive rural data centre that would have consumed as much power as the city of Edmonton. It cited missing information and a lack of public consultation. thenarwhal.ca/olds-data-ce...

Calgary mayor considers plebiscite on whether city is getting fair deal from Alberta government | CBC News Jeromy Farkas floated the idea of putting a question to Calgary voters about how they feel about the "transfer payments" they send to the provincial government, which administration said could cost $1...

Most likely, the province would legislate to disallow any such thing, of course. Only referenda that advance the interests of one political base are allowed to take place.

We β€œe-biked till we qualified” along LRT line for our Westgate bungalow / first house purchase. Being single car/light has been easy and saved us tons

Utter lack of vision. The Ioniq 5 should be a VW product, 100% BEV re-engineered GTI/R etc.; ID.4 isn't it. Buzz is a 3 row that is utterly unimaginative as a family road tripper other than size.

Basically, Stephen Miller decides who has rights - because he just gets to allege who is a criminal and doesn't deserve rights (and yes, even duly convicted folks have rights still).
