A public official once asserted they were “tired of hearing about Barbara Johns.” One must wonder where such a statement is rooted given that her story was intentionally omitted for generations. The Barbara Johns statue at the Capitol just taught these detractors a much needed “history lesson.”

I was honored to be invited to attend Tuesday’s unveiling of the Barbara Johns statue in the U.S. Capitol with my friend and colleague, Owen Longacre. Barbara Johns will replace Confederate General Robert E. Lee and stand next to George Washington as the representatives of the Commonwealth of VA. 🇺🇸
