After discovering a Crazy Taxi Dreamcast prototype with a GTA view (download below), I became interested in the history of Open-World racing games and NPC life systems similar to Shenmue. One game stands out: Felony Pursuit Dreamcast!
www.sega-dreamcast-info-games-preservation.com/en/crazy-tax...
Deadly Pursuit Dreamcast was among the early Open-World racing games pioneers, alongside Crazy Taxi, Driver, Midtown Madness, Carmageddon and Felony Pursuit. The genre would become popular much later with Forza Horizon Xbox 360π

I'd like to thank JChris Bateman, Dominic Jackson, Leon Walters, and Rob Lord for their testimonials about Worldβs Scariest Police Chases: Deadly Pursuit on Dreamcast.
After years of investigation, hereβs my full article on Worldβs Scariest Police Chases: Deadly Pursuit for Dreamcast, an Unreleased mystery, featuring insights from developers, plus details on its story, city, missions and gameplayπ

When I dumped the Unreleased Japanese version of Burnout 1 PS2, unaware it never came out in Japan, I left it in my βnon-priorityβ prototype pile for nearly a year
When I finally revisited it, I realized it was a important buildπ

Rayman II Dreamcast Prototype
These are placeholders in the dialogue lines. It means: "Go play in the blender"π

Wetrix, we forget the existence of this game on Dreamcast

The downside of releasing one article per month is that things are piling up. Weβre not enough people to speed up the pace, and I value quality over quantity. For example, we started working on a prototype this week that likely wonβt be shown until 2026.

I already have all my articles and releases written for the rest of the year. Whatβs left is polishing, layout, and proofreading in French and English. There will also be major pieces to present, along with a redesign of older site pages I wasnβt satisfied with.
I am looking for someone who can reverse an Xbox game but go 100% and in depth
Placeholders in prototypes are often funny. Hereβs a new amusing one in the photo.
I remember laughing a lot at the one in a Dreamcast prototype of Rayman 2, especially the temporary dialogue lines:

Some Sega of America employees were working on a VMU mini-game project (Unreleased), an RPG, with the idea of releasing it episodically. I talk about it here, along with other special projects:

According to Half-Life Dreamcastβs Lead Beta Tester, he tested a build from May 30/31, 2001, though the date may be off. The prototype we consider the final is dated May 23, 2001. Another intriguing aspect is the online version, seemed to point toward a new franchise entry.
Some time ago, I spoke with a Half-Life Dreamcast programmer and producer and documented the gameβs development and cancellation. One question remains: do we actually have the final version or not?π

That question really drives me crazy
This Spirit of Speed 1937 PC/Dreamcast archive could significantly improve the game. We managed to make minor modifications without going very far. Iβm also convinced it contains tracks that were cut from the final versionπ

The Dreamcast project Quark remains a Unreleased with huge potential, the kind people still regret 25 years later. We explored its concept through Artwork and developer testimonies, revealing what could have been a remarkable gameπ

A few years ago, I found a Doom Dreamcast prototype source code in a Katana dev kit. Built with Windows CE in 2000 and using DC peripherals like the VMU, it was created as a programming exercise. Try it below:

Today Iβm sharing a U.S. Jet Set Radio Dreamcast prototype from Oct 6, 2000, just 4 days after the final build. Differences are minimal, mainly in the IP.BIN. Download link is at the bottom of this page with a pink βNEWβ tagπ

Do you know why SEGA decided to close No ClichΓ© rather than sell the studio?
Because SEGA wanted to retain the intellectual property rights to Toy Commander. By selling it, SEGA would have had to sell the IP.

During my investigation into Half-Life Dreamcast, I came across a collector who may own the final version of the game. For now, the βofficialβ copy I have is considered the final build. But I have some doubts. I personally found four HL builds, including the development team's souvenir disc
Unreleased games that were never announced or never found a publisher are often the most fascinating. They frequently feature original concepts or unique art direction. Sadly, they draw little attention, since most people only look for big names like Soul Reaver 2 on Dreamcast
Do you remember Stunt Driver PC. The game that included a track editor?
A version of that 1990 Hit was running on the first Xbox as a kind of tech demo. I believe the graphics were improved. It was a programmerβs practice project, a exercise to get familiar with the hardware.
Half-Life Dreamcast isnβt the only known official prototype on CD-R. Agartha and Chakan for Dreamcast also exist on CD-Rs. Without being able to state it explicitly, one studio reportedly used CD-Rs for beta testing their games to avoid dealing with the Disc System 2 and the red GD-Rs!
Did you know?
Half-Life Dreamcast was canceled at the last minute β printed manuals and covers already existed, and the devs burned a CD-R prototype using the remaining official packaging to celebrate the end of development. π

Did you know?
I have absolutely everything β the complete source code archive, the web sources, the assets, the tools β basically the original developersβ working environment β to add new content to a Dreamcast game. That would be a first! Or even port it to Unreal Engine!

Looking Glass Studios was in talks with SEGA to develop a new Shinobi game for the Dreamcast before the Overworks version that was ultimately released on the PS2. The American studio had a story, some artwork, and a rendered intro video (but no playable build).
Is it a coincidence to find a .TXT file with the name of the Dreamcast game executable (1STREAD) inside a folder called DUMMY in a Shinobi PlayStation 2 prototype?
If you have Dreamcast prototypes, or prototypes for other consoles, that you would like digitized but are unable to do yourself, many of us around the world can do it for youβeither privately or for sharing with the community (the choice is yours).
