How about more steeply PROGRESSIVE tax rates, with the middle class brackets paying very little--but not quite zero?
Dems can win back the middle class by making it clear that they'll tax the rich--and CUT taxes for the middle class. (Which Republicans always promise--but don't deliver; THEIR version of "tax reform" benefits mainly the rich, with only a token, temporary crumb for the middle class now and then.)
But depending on location, 200k IS barely enough to support a house and a couple of kids--which is what we call a "middle class" way of life, isn't it?
For 45 years, Republicans have gotten much of the middle class to vote for "tax cuts" by acknowledging that they're overtaxed--which they ARE.
The "middle class" barely exists anymore--and people who are now considered "middle class" are struggling not to fall into poverty.
